No. 7 Women's Crew Heads to Sarasota for Big Ten Invitational
4/17/2025 9:21:00 AM | Women's Crew
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - After a dominating performance against the Penn Quakers on Apr. 5, the Bears return to action this weekend at the Big Ten Invitational in Sarasota, Florida.
This weekend of races provides the Bears with a unique opportunity to test their ability against some of the other top teams in the country, such as third ranked Washington, ninth ranked Rutgers, 12th ranked Michigan, 14th ranked Ohio State, and 16th ranked Duke.
With several tough opponents on the horizon, senior leader Nadia Vondeling spoke about what it would take to consider this trip to Florida a successful one. "Success this weekend means demonstrating that Brown women's crew can compete stroke for stroke with any program in the country. Our team is never showing up to simply participate, we are racing for a win and to put ourselves in a place to be a championship team," said Vondeling.
Brown has come in at seventh overall in each of the first five CRCA polls this season, showing that their blend of talent, depth and coaching has made them one of the nation's most consistent programs. With the Big Ten Invitational marking the midway point of the 2025 spring season for the Bears, the team is ready to jump up in the polls and show the progress that has been made behind the scenes since their last race against the Quakers.
"As a team, we've built on our successes and made huge strides since our last race against Penn, and we're excited to demonstrate our speed in Sarasota," said senior Annie Herring. "We've set ambitious goals for this season and beyond, and the Big Ten invitational is a critical checkpoint to test our speed and track our progress toward the results we are looking for."
Both days of racing can be streamed live on RHStv.com, with the first race for the Bears scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m. on Friday.
