Women’s Lacrosse Takes Down No. 7 Yale

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown women's lacrosse team (6-2, 1-1) earned a 14-11 win over No. 7 Yale (7-2, 1-1) on Saturday afternoon at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
Brown's win over No. 7 Yale is the second over a top 10 opponent in program history and its first win over Yale since 2019. The loss for Yale snapped a 10-game winning streak against Ivy League opponents.
In a high-scoring first quarter, the two sides combined for 10 goals as Yale held a 6-4 advantage after the opening 15 minutes. Brown had four different goal scorers in the first as Annie Burton, Leah Caputo, Carly Camphausen, and Maddie Joyce all found the back of the net.
The Bulldogs opened the second quarter on a 2-0 run to take an 8-4 lead with 6:49 remaining in the first half. Brown then launched a 4-0 run to close the half, highlighted by three goals in 47 seconds, two of which were scored by Avery Doran seven seconds apart. Doran's second goal during this stretch cut the Yale lead to 8-7 with 5:01 remaining in the half, Greta Criqui tied the game at eight less than two minutes later. The game went to the second half tied at eight.
Annie Burton's goal 1:34 into the second half gave Brown its first lead of the game at 9-8, Burton's goal capped off a 5-0 run. After Yale tied the game at nine, Brown responded with goals from Camphausen and Criqui to take an 11-9 lead. The Bulldogs added one more goal in the frame as Brown took a 11-10 lead into the final 15 minutes.
Brown put a stamp on the contest when they opened the fourth quarter on a 3-0 run, giving the Bears a 14-10 lead. Yale added one more goal with 2:09 remaining but it wasn't enough as Brown earned its first Ivy League win of the season.
Burton and Doran led the Bears with three goals and four assists each, Brown had five different players score two or more goals in the win. After entering the game after the first quarter, Claire Mahoney stopped 10 shots on 18 shots faced.
Brown will continue Ivy League play when they host Harvard at Stevenson-Pincince Field on Saturday, Mar. 29 at 1:00 p.m.
