Davis Wins Specialist of the Year and Conference Title at GEC Championships

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Brown women's gymnastics team finished in sixth place overall on Saturday evening at the Gymnastics East Conference Championships. The Bears finished with 192.875 points in a closely contested meet that saw spots four-through-six all finish within one-tenth of a point of each other.
Senior Maya Davis captured the individual conference championship on floor by tying her career-high at 9.900 and was also voted by the league's eight head coaches as the GEC Specialist of the Year.
Overall, Brown earned three All-GEC Championship honors with Davis earning two First Team accolades on bars and floor by finishing in the top three in those events, and senior Julia Bedell earned Second Team honors on floor by tying for sixth.
Brown competed in the evening session along with the other top four seeds in the eight-team championship. Hosting the championship, Penn took home its fourth consecutive GEC team title, followed by Yale and Bridgeport in the top three.

Brown scored 48.875 on floor to open the meet, good for second place just behind Penn. Davis tied her career-high with a 9.900 to take home the gold, followed by a 9.800 from Bedell to finish tied for sixth. Lindsey Yang followed with a 9.775 to tie for 12th, and Avery Walters finished with a score of 9.750.
The Bears posted a 48.350 on vault on their second rotation, led by Sophia Dewar in a tie for 10th place with a 9.750, followed by Bedell and Umi El Mammann at 9.725 each. Gabby Mautner added a 9.625.
Next on bars, Brown totaled 48.000 with Davis leading the team in a tie for third place overall with a 9.825. Liza Marcus followed in a tie for eighth with a 9.725 while Daisy Fallon and Dewar each scored 9.650.
The Bears concluded the meet on beam with a 47.650, led by Walters in a tie for ninth place at 9.750. Marcus scored 9.700 and Jessica Lin finished with a 9.600.
Saturday's championships marked the final team competition of the season for Brown. The squad will now await to see if any members of the team will qualify for regionals. The NCAA Selection Show will air on Monday, March 24 at noon on ESPNU.
