PROVIDENCE, R.I. – For the second time this season, Brown sophomore Emily Ford has been selected as the GEC's Specialist of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday. Ford was recognized for her standout performance on beam at this past Sunday's quad meet at Bridgeport. She is the Co-Specialist of the Week this week along with West Chester's Caroline Cascadden.
Ford helped the Bears achieve the No. 2 team score in program history on beam (49.050) this past weekend, leading the way with a 9.900 to take first place overall, tying her own career-high for the third time, which also ranks No. 2 all-time in program history.
This marks the sixth consecutive week and seventh time overall this season that a Brown gymnast has won a weekly GEC award, joining fellow Specialists of the Week Julia Bedell (Jan. 15, Feb. 12), Maya Davis (Mar. 5, Mar. 12), and Ford's previous award from Feb. 19. Avery Walters was also named the Newcomer of the Week back on Feb. 26.
The Bears will be the No. 3 seed in this Saturday's GEC Championships in Philadelphia and will compete in the evening session along with Penn, Yale and Bridgeport starting at 6 p.m.
