PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Blake Saito (157) is set to continue his strong 2024-25 season after earning an at-large bid for the NCAA Championships in Philadelphia from March 20-22.
"We are thrilled for Blake that he gets the opportunity to compete in the NCAA Championships," said Head Coach Jordan Leen. "He has certainly earned it with the season that he has put together. We are excited to see what he can do."
Saito ended the regular season ranked #31 in the country for his weight class and managed to string together several impressive performances against other ranked wrestlers, specifically a highly competitive bout against Meyer Shapiro (Cornell), who is currently ranked #2 in the country for his weight class and won Ivy League Wrestler of the Year.
After going 2-2 at the Ivy League Tournament on March 9, picking up victories over Richard Fedalen (Columbia) and Jake Mann (Princeton), Saito locked himself into an at-large bid and becomes only the second Brown wrestler to punch a ticket to the NCAA Championships this decade (Michael Joyce, 2024).
The Senior has not only been the highest performer on the mat for the Bears, but has also taken a leadership role that is especially evident during matches where he isn't competing. Regardless of the score or his own performance, Saito is always on his feet cheering his teammates on and offering advice from the sideline. These displays became a common theme during the course of the season and offer a glimpse into the passion and competitiveness that has helped keep Blake wrestling deep into the postseason.
The NCAA DI Wrestling Selection Show is tonight (March 12) at 8 PM ET and will reveal the seeding for each wrestler and the overall layout of the brackets. You can watch the show on NCAA.com.
