Women’s Basketball Suffers Loss to Columbia

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Brown women's basketball team (10-15, 4-8 Ivy) suffered a 44-70 loss to the Columbia Lions (20-5, 11-1 Ivy) on Friday night at Levien Gymnasium. The Lions earned wins against the Bears both times the team met this season.
Senior guard Isabella Mauricio and junior guard Grace Arnolie both led the team in scoring with 15 points a piece. Mauricio grabbed four rebounds, and posted an assist. Arnolie assisted three baskets, and posted a steal.
Senior center Gianna Aiello and sophomore guard Olivia Young helped the Bears' defense, grabbing six and five defensive rebounds respectively.
Both teams had a slow start to the contest, with the first basket being netted two minutes into the game. The Bears shot 22% from the field in the first quarter, while the Lions shot 20%. Arnolie and Aiello earned Brown's points in the first 10 minutes.
Brown shot 33% in the second quarter, and Columbia shot 35%. At the break, the Lions held a nine point edge over the Bears.
Coming out of the half, Columbia's score continued to climb. The Bears posted 15 points in the third quarter, while the Lions netted 25.
The Bears pushed through the final 10 minutes, unable to come out on top.
UP NEXT
The Bears will head to Ithaca to take on the Cornell Big Red at Newman Arena on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
