Men's Lacrosse Opens 2025 Season Against Fairfield, Boston University

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears (0-0, 0-0 Ivy League) kick off the 2025 season with a home game against the Fairfield Stags (1-0, 0-0 CAA) on Saturday before taking on the Boston University Terriers (1-0, 0-0 Patriot) on the road Tuesday night.
Saturday's game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. with Tuesday's opening faceoff set for 7 p.m. Both games will stream on ESPN+ in the United States.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
- Brown returns 93% of its point production from a season ago with Jack Kelly as the lone departure with any points in 2024.
- Aidan McLane led the Bears in goals (34) and points (40) a season ago and the next five leading scorers also all return – Ben Locke (23 points), Spencer Hughes (19), Marcus Wertheim (19), Matteo Corsi (14), and Jackson Wolfram (14).
- Brown's defensive unit of Charlie Cave, Tyler Blackburn, and Trey Taylor also return in 2024.
- Dash Sachs, Brown's primary faceoff specialist last season, returns after posting a .491 win-rate at X with 77 ground balls in 2024.
- The Bears will have a new goalie between the pipes in 2025 with the departure of Connor Theriault.
- Five goalies will vie for the starting job: senior Andy Demopoulos, juniors Harry Laferriere and Brosnan Lopez, sophomore Connor Foley, and freshman Tucker Williams.
- Fairfield enters the weekend with a 1-0 record after taking a 10-7 home win over Lehigh in the opener.
- The Stags outscored the Mountain Hawks 5-2 in the fourth quarter to break a deadlock and take the win.
- Devin Lampron tallied four goals in the win to lead the offense with Keegan Lynch adding a goal and two assists.
- Fairfield went 0-for-1 in man-up situations with Lehigh going 2-for-4 with the man-up.
- Dylan Smith went 11-for-19 at X with four ground balls and Daniel Davis won his lone faceoff taken.
- Between the pipes, Owen Hirsch recorded seven saves to pick up the win.
- In 2024, Fairfield posted an 8-7 overall record and 5-2 CAA mark. The Stags fell in overtime to 19th-ranked Delaware in the CAA semifinal.
- Saturday marks the 10th meeting between Brown and Fairfield in a series dating back to 1997.
- The teams met annually from 1997-2004 with Brown taking 7-of-9 wins over the Stags.
- Boston University enters the weekend with a 1-0 record after opening the season with a 9-7 win over Siena on the road.
- The Terriers take on the Monmouth Hawks on Friday (2/14) in Boston.
- Timothy Shannehan led the offense with four goals and an assist against the Saints. Jimmy Kohr added two goals and Jimmy O'Connell chipped in a goal and assist.
- BU went 0-for-3 in man-up situations against Siena and allowed two EMO goals.
- Will Barnes recorded 11 saves to pick up the victory.
- In 2024, the Terriers posted a 10-7 overall record and 5-3 Patriot League mark. BU took a triple overtime quarterfinal win over Colgate and an overtime semifinal win over Army before falling to Lehigh, 11-10, in the Patriot League Championship game.
- Tuesday marks the sixth meeting between Brown and Boston University in a series dating back to 1930.
- It is just the third meeting in the last 90 years with each team taking a win in recent history.
- Charlie Cave and Aidan McLane were named USA Lacrosse Preseason Honorable Mention All-Americans, announced in January.
- Cave earned First Team All-Ivy and Honorable Mention All-America honors from USA Lacrosse a season ago.
- McLane picked up Second Team All-Ivy recognition in 2024.
- Two freshmen - Ennis Udo and Kyle Bilello - were named to the Inside Lacrosse Power 100 List.
- Bilello checked in at #54 on the list with Udo coming in at #77.
- The Bears look to capture the Ocean State Cup for the first time since 2022 this season.
- Brown will square off against Providence College next weekend in the first leg of the in-state rivalry before taking on Bryant on March 4.
- The Friars took a win over Bryant already this season and can capture the Ocean State Cup for the first time since 2020 and third time overall with a win over the Bears.
- Ten of Brown's opponents in 2025 are currently ranked or receiving votes in the USILA Poll.
- Within the Ivy League, there is: #3 Cornell, #8 Princeton, #10 Yale, #13 Penn, and #19 Harvard.
- Among the non-conference opponents: #14 Georgetown, (RV) Providence College, (RV) Fairfield, (RV) Boston University, and (RV) UMass.
- Five Bears were tabbed by head coach Jon Torpey to captain the squad in 2025.
- Kevin Sweeney, Mark Witt, Tyler Blackburn, Charlie Cave, and Marcus Wertheim will lead the squad this spring.
