Women's Fencing Takes Win Over Penn at 2025 Ivy League Championships

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – First-year Ibla Vadasz posted a two-day record of 11-4 in the saber to finish second overall and earn All-Ivy honors at the 2025 Ivy League Fencing Championships over the weekend in Philadelphia.
Brown captured a Sunday win over Penn to finish tied for sixth in the conference with Yale.
The Bears opened the Ivy League Championship with four rounds on Saturday with the closest match coming at the end, a 15-12 loss to Cornell. Brown's saber team picked up 5-4 weapon wins over the Big Red and Columbia Lions.
The Brown epee crew took a 5-4 victory over the Harvard Crimson in the second round of competition.
Through the opening day, Vadasz posted a 6-3 individual record in the saber. Jessie Chen posted a 5-7 individual mark in the foil and Dasha Smuk went 5-6 in the epee.
The Bears got in the win column to open Sunday's competition with a 14-13 thriller over Penn. The saber crew posted a 7-2 victory over the Quakers and the epee weapon group posted a 5-4 victory.
Brown closed out the competition with a tight 15-12 loss to Yale.
Vadasz collected five wins in six bouts on Sunday to finish with an 11-4 overall record and second to Princeton's Emese Domokos. Chen went 3-2 on Sunday to finish 8-10 overall and tenth in the foil.
Kira Nguyen posted a 7-7 overall record in the epee to finish ninth overall. Smuk tallied an overall record of 7-10 to finish 13th overall.
