Women’s Fencing Goes Undefeated at the Brandeis Invitational

WALTHAM, Mass. - The Brown women's fencing team impressed at the Brandeis Invitational, earning five victories highlighted by a thrilling 14-13 upset over No. 10 Penn State. The Bears also posted dominant wins against Drew, Tufts, Haverford, and Lawrence.
In sabre competition, Sophia Lee and Anika Sinha each delivered flawless 9-0 performances, with Alyssa Sun close behind at 8-1. Alexandra Tzou recorded a 4-2 mark on the day, while Ibla Vadasz and Soph Bililies both finished at 3-3.
Foil proved equally dominant, as Neve O'Neil (6-0) and Catherine Zhou (6-0) went undefeated. Grace Li (7-2) and Apoorva Talwalkar (7-2) added strong contributions, while Vera Fung (5-1) and Jessie Chen (6-3) provided depth and consistency across the squad.
In epee, several Bears posted standout records. Jessie Yan and Ashley Luo led the group at 8-1, with Dasha Smuk, Amy Mao, and Kira Nguyen each turning in impressive 7-2 performances.
Brown closed the event with a perfect 5-0 record in Waltham, defeating five different opponents. The Bears will return to competition on January 18, 2026, at the Tufts Invitational in Medford, Massachusetts.
