CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Brown women's tennis team concluded their Harvard Quad Team Event run with two doubles wins and four singles wins against Harvard.
Sunday's doubles action began with Dani Ben-Abraham and Abigail Lee falling 6-1 to Harvard's Polina Krumkachev and Natasha Rajaram. Anne Moody and Ali Maguy then brought up the energy, securing a 7-6(5) tiebreaker victory over Claire Shao and Andra Braicu. Meanwhile, Anne Yang and Bella Hu dropped their match 6-1 to Kavya Karra and Kate Kim. Closing out doubles, Hannah Shen and Francesca secured their first pair victory with a 6-1 win against Elsie Ragatz and Isabella Ohr.
Transitioning to singles, Ali Maguy recorded her 10th win of the season, defeating Claire Shao 6-4, 6-4 at the first line. Abigail Lee then fell to Polina Krumkachev 6-3, 6-4 at the second line. Hannah Shen lost a three-set match against Kavya Karra 6-7(7), 6-1, 10-8. Sari Woo secured her second win of the season over Andra Braicu 6-1, 6-2 at the fourth line. Dani Ben-Abraham added a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Kate Kim at the fifth line. Bella Hu concluded the Bears' day with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Natasha Rajaram.
"We started doubles with very low energy and poor execution on most courts. We couldn't overcome the slow start on courts 1 and 3, but Ali and Anne were able to turn the momentum around with better execution and disciplined play to win their match in a tiebreaker," Broadbent Family Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser said. "In singles, we came out with much better intensity and a sense of urgency, completely dominating our opponents in the 1st set on 5 of the 6 courts."
She continued, "Dani was relentless in attacking her opponent and completely overwhelmed her with her pace and accuracy. Sari took care of business in her match, dictating play with confidence and game clarity. Once again, Ali implemented her game plan competently and came up with her best play when needed to close out each set."
"Bella played great tennis in her match, regrouping well when her opponent closed the gap in the second set and evened the score at 4-4. Bella closed out the match 6-4 by going back to her aggressive play."
In summary, Schmidhauser said, "Overall, it was a good weekend for the Bears. We have work to do before the team spring season starts in January, but I'm encouraged by the progress we have made this fall."
