HANOVER, N.H. – The Brown women's tennis team secured four singles victories on day one of the Big Green Invite against UMass Amherst.
The Bears are teamed with the Yale Bulldogs for the tournament.
In doubles action, Dani Ben-Abraham and Abigail Lee lost their match to Madara Markevica and Amanda de Oliveira 7-5. Francesca Saroli and Bella Hu also lost in a tiebreaker to Martina Pavissich and Renata Farima 7(7)-6(2).
In singles, the Bears won all four of their matches. First, Ben-Abraham defeated Amelia Tye 6-3 and 6-2. Abigail Lee defeated Marcevica 6-1 and 6-4. Hu also won against Fiona Ao 6-4 and 6-0. Saroli secured Brown's final victory of the day, 6-1 and 6-3, over Amanda de Oliveira.
"Great play in singles today from all four players," Broadbent Family Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser said. "We played with a lot of clarity, stayed in points as long as necessary to create attacking opportunities or force the opponent to make an error. We have been working on this type of play all fall, and today's across-the-board high-level performance should give our players the confidence to stay on track physically, mentally, and emotionally. I look forward to another day of quality competition tomorrow versus Rutgers."
