Women’s Basketball Secures Home-Opening Win Over Boston University, 57-54

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown women's basketball team (2-2) earned a 57-54 home-opening win over Boston University (2-3) on Wednesday night.
"Obviously really excited to get a win in our home opener," Elizabeth F. Turner '98 Coaching Chair for Women's Basketball Monique LeBlanc said. "It was great timing to have Grace back tonight. Also her teammate that we missed all of last year, Ada, got her feet wet tonight which we love to see. We definitely have a strong senior class, and their leadership is critical for us to play at the level we know we can play."
Senior guard Grace Arnolie made her return to Brown's lineup picking up right where she left off. Arnolie led the team in scoring with 14 points, and shot just below 50% from the field.
Senior forward Alyssa Moreland also finished the game in double figures for her third time this season, and second-straight game.
Moreland got the Bears on the board first, while Arnolie followed up with another basket a few seconds later. Arnolie's first basket of the night marked the start of Brown's 14-0 run that spanned for almost the entirety of the first quarter. The Terriers were unable to retaliate until a free throw opportunity with two and a half minutes left on the clock in the first quarter. Brown totaled 19 points in the first 10 minutes, which would later prove to be their highest-scoring quarter. They held BU to just six points in the first quarter.
The Terriers were able to pull off a 5-0 run midway through the second quarter, cutting their deficit to five points. The Bears were able to stay on pace with their scoring, netting 18 points in the quarter ahead of the half. BU added 19 points in the second quarter, but it was not enough to take the lead from Brown. The Bears led 37-25 at the break.
The third quarter opened up with a 12-0 run for the Terriers, tying the score up at 37. The run was broken up by three-straight layups from Moreland, keeping the Bears in the driver's seat.
With four and a half minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Terriers were able to take the last by one point. Two minutes later, Moreland and Arnolie traded baskets to give Brown the lead. The Bears' defense held down the final minutes of the game, securing their second-straight win.
The Bears closed out Wednesday night's contest shooting just below 40% from the field, and 67% from the free throw line.
Brown's win over BU marks the program's first win over the Terriers since 2017.
