Women's Tennis Closes ITA Regionals with Stellar Performances
10/12/2025 5:48:00 PM | Women's Tennis
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Brown women's tennis team concluded their ITA Regionals run on day four after two doubles teams delivered strong performances.
Ali Maguy and Anne Moody opened the day by advancing to the quarterfinals after defeating Marist's Viktoria Lorentzon and Tessa Wachtel 8-5 but then lost to No. 6 Seren Agar and Alexandra Torre from Boston College in a tense tiebreaker 8(7)-7(4). Similarly, Dani Ben-Abraham and Abigail Lee defeated No. 1 Kavya Karra and Stephanie Yakoff from Harvard 8-5 to reach the quarterfinals, before falling to No. 5 Nelly Knezkova and Anastasia Sysoeva from Syracuse 8-4.
"Even though neither of our teams advanced to the semifinals, I was very encouraged by our doubles play today," commented Broadbent Family Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser. She noted, "Anne and Ali played very solid doubles in their round of 16, closing out their match with relentless serve and volley play. In the next round, their opponents came out strong, taking a 5-1 lead rather quickly. Anne and Ali showed a lot of resilience and fight in evening out their match at 7-7. Even though they were edged out in the tiebreaker 5-7, I was proud of their fight and improved body language."
Schmidhauser added, "In their round of 16 win, Dani and Abbey played inspired doubles against the reigning Regional Champions from last year. They were extremely aggressive and very smart with their shot selection. A great win for our newly formed doubles team! In the quarterfinals against a very polished Syracuse team, our shot execution wasn't as on point, especially on crucial deuce points, which ended up costing us the match."
"Overall, our team has made a lot of progress this fall, and our Regionals performance is a testament to our players' hard work and willingness to learn."
