Women's Fencing Posts 2-1 Mark at Tufts Invitational

MEDFORD, Mass. – The Brown Bears returned to action at the Tufts Invitational on Sunday, collecting wins over Tufts and Wellesley with a close loss to Northwestern.
Individually, Jessie Chen finished a perfect 9-0 in the foil, Soph Bililies and Ibla Vadasz went 6-1 and 5-1, respectively, in the sabre, and Dasha Smuk finished 5-1 in the epee.
The Bears cruised to a 21-6 win over Wellesley bolstered by an 8-1 performance in the foil and a 7-2 effort in the sabre. Chen and Grace Li both went a perfect 3-0 in the foil and Bililies posted a 3-0 mark in the sabre.
Apoorva Talwalkar (foil) finished 2-1 against Wellesley and in the sabre, Alexandra Tzou and Alyssa Sun both finished 2-1. Brown's epee unit of Smuk, Kira Nguyen, and Amy Mao all finished 2-1.
Brown captured a 22-5 win over host Tufts behind 3-0 efforts from Ashley Luo (epee), Chen, Vadasz, and Bililies. Anika Sinha was 2-1 in the sabre with Isabella Pucci and Jessie Yan both finished 2-1 in the epee.
In a tight loss to fifth-ranked Northwestern, Smuk and Chen each posted a perfect 3-0 mark with Vadasz collecting two individual wins.
The Bears are back in action on Sunday, February 2 with a trip to MIT to compete in the Eric Sollee Invitational. It's the final tune-up before the 2025 Ivy League Championships, which are scheduled for Feb. 8-9 in Philadelphia.
