Field Hockey Opens 2024 Season Against UMass Lowell, Boston University

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears open the 2024 campaign at Goldberger Family Field as UMass Lowell River Hawks and the Boston University Terriers head to College Hill on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
Friday's game against UMass Lowell is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. and Sunday's match against Boston University is set for 1 p.m. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+ with live stats available through BrownBears.com.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
- The Bears return more than 75% of its offense from 2023. Notably Imogen Govan, Lexi Pellegrino and Lucy Adams.
- Second year Kylee Del Monte started over 80% of games in the 2023 season, racking up a 0.759 save percentage over 13 games.
- Head coach Britt Broady comes into her third season with the Bears, accompanied by entirely new assistant coaching staff, Ben Howarth and Hannah Fisher.
- The River Hawks opened the 2024 season with games against Merrimack and fifth-ranked Duke prior to coming to Providence. Their record lies at 1-1.
- UMass Lowell finished the 2023 season with a 14-4 overall record, and a 7-1 America East record, with a 11-2 at-home advantage.
- Madison Leeper, a junior, was the leading goal scorer and point leader for the Riverhawks. Leeper enters the 2024 season after posting 14 goals and 31 points in 2023.
- Christina Calandra recorded a 0.667% save percentage after the opening weekend of the season. She recorded 1.80 goals against average during the 2023 season.
- The Bears and River Hawks will meet for the fourth time in series history on Friday, Sept. 6.
- The River Hawks hold a 2-1 edge over the Bears in the series, most recently, the River Hawks defeated the Bears 2-0 in 2023.
- The 2023 season home opener the Bears took home a 3-0 win against LIU.
- The Terriers opened the 2024 season with games against Providence and Boston College. They host 12th-ranked Michigan tomorrow afternoon.
- BU has a 1-1 record after beating Providence and falling to Boston College.
- Three different Terriers have recorded a goal through the first two games of the season.
- Sophie Ortyl has started both games in goal and holds a 0.688% save percentage and a 3.33 goals against average.
- The Terriers will come to College Hill in Providence for the first time in this series.
- This will mark the 10th meeting between Brown and Boston University and first since the 2007 season.
