
Volleyball Sweeps Central Connecticut; Falls to UConn on Friday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown volleyball began its day with a sweep over Central Connecticut State before falling in three sets to UConn to end the day.
BROWN 3, CENTRAL CONNECTICUT STATE 0
Brown cruised to a sweep over Central Connecticut, 25-6, 25-11, 25-20 to start its weekend in New Hampshire. The Bears hit a season-high .469 and had 11 aces in the win.
Ally Panzloff led Brown with 13 kills and was one of three Bears to .500 or better in the match, hitting .500 even. Beau Vanderlaan led the team with a .625 hitting percentage (five kills) and Sophia Wolfson hit .500 with nine kills.
Mariia Sidorova had 10 kills, hitting .474 and led the team with 13 digs for her second double-double of the season. Ella Park also had a double-double with 34 assits and 10 digs. Jessie Golden's streak of 37-straight matches with double-figure digs came to an end as the junior finished with nine digs on the day.
Brown hit .440 in the first set and held Central Connecticut to -.057 hitting as the Bears cruised to a 25-6 win. After an error by Brown made the score 9-5, the Bears scored 10-straight ponts in a run that featured three kills from Sidorova and two from Wolfson. Brown finished off the set on a 6-0 run.
The Bears offense was even more efficient in set two, hitting .560. After falling behind 5-3, Brown scored the next five points to jump ahead 8-5. Another 5-0 run with two kills by Panzloff made the score 19-9. Two kills by Sidorova and a block by Vanderlaan and Fisayo Afonja ended the set.
Set three was back and forth with CCSU tying the set at 15 before Brown used a 5-1 run that featured a kill and service ace from Afonja. Panlzoff's kill gave Brown match point and after two points by CCSU, Panlzoff picked up her 13th kill for the win.
UCONN 3, BROWN 0
The Bears fell in straight sets to UConn to close out the day, 25-21, 25-21, 25-21. The Bears were led by Sidorova with 12 kills. Panzloff was second on the team with eight kills, ending her streak of seven-straight games with double-figure kills to start the season.
Jessie Golden collected 15 digs for Brown's defense and Beau Vanderlaan had six blocks.
Set one was tight with the Bears tying the set at 17 with a kill by Panzloff. UConn responded with five-straight points to jump ahead 22-17. Brown pulled back within one with four-straight points but UConn scored the next three points to win the set.
The teams traded runs early in the second set before Brown used a 8-1 run that featured three kills from Sidorova to go ahead 17-14. The Bears were the first to 20 after kills by Park and Panzloff before the Huskies went on a 9-1 run to go ahead 2-0 in the match.
Brown fell behind early 8-3 but responded with four-straight points to tie the set at nine. UConn responded with four points of its own and the teams went back and forth until a kill by Sidorova made the score 19-17 in favor of UConn. The Huskies scored four of the next five points to go ahead 23-18.
The Bears scored three-straight points to pull within two at 23-21 but two more points from the Huskies ended the comeback.
