Football Set for Season-Opener at Georgetown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Looking to build upon the momentum of last season, the Brown football team is set to open up its 2024 season this Saturday afternoon with a trip to Georgetown to take on the Hoyas. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. from Cooper Field in our nation's capital.

OPENING KICKOFF
SERIES HISTORY
TEAM CAPTAINS
• Brown will be led by four captains in 2024 in quarterback Jake Willcox, offensive lineman Jack Connolly, defensive back Isaiah Reed and linebacker Caleb Moorhead.
• Willcox and Reed served as captains in 2023.
2023 ALL-IVY LEAGUE
• Returners: Jack Connolly (1st/OL), Isaiah Reed (1st/DB), Jake Willcox (2nd/QB), Austin Alley (HM/P), Caleb Moorhead (HM/LB), Stockton Owen (HM/RB), Kyle Philbin (HM/DE).
• Graduated: Wes Rockett (1st/WR & RS), Terrence Lane II (HM/DE), Aubrey Parker (HM/DB).
SECOND(ARY) TO NONE
• As a team, Brown finished with 13 interceptions last season, tied with Harvard for the most in the Ivy League.
• Isaiah Reed led the Ivy League with five interceptions in 2023, while graduated senior Aubrey Parker tied for third with three picks.
• Reed led the Ivy League in passes defended (13). Parker ranked tied for second with 10, while graduated senior Treyvon Hobbs tied for third with nine.
ALTERNATING RESULTS
• Brown alternated results each week last season, never having back-to-back wins or losses.
• It marked the first season in program history (minimum 5 games) where Brown did not win or lose consecutive games.
• Brown alternated wins and losses in 1886 (1-1) and alternated results during the 2-2 campaign of 1889.
POLARIZING COVERAGE
• Brown's punt and kickoff coverages in 2023 ranked at opposite ends of the Ivy League.
• The Bears ranked No. 1 in the Ivy League (32nd nationally) on punt coverage, allowing just 5.14 yards per return.
• On kickoffs, Brown allowed a league-high 24.80 yards (120th out of 122 nationally).
FIRST DOWNS
• Brown led the Ivy League in 2023 (30th in FCS) with 238 first downs (23.8 per game), 22 more than Penn, the largest gap between any team. They also did so while playing the fewest games of any team in the top 55.
THIRD DOWN SUCCESS
• Brown ranked 19th in the nation and third in the Ivy League on third down conversions at 43.8 percent in 2023.
FOURTH DOWN DEFENSE
• Opponents were 4-for-11 last season, ranking the Bears 2nd in the league on 4th down defense and 11th in FCS.
• Brown was the only team in all of FCS to have not allowed a fourth down conversion until Oct. 21 at Cornell, when the Big Red went 2-for-2.
WIDE OPEN ON THE OUTSIDE
• Wide receiver has been Brown's deepest and most experienced position in recent years, but in 2024, Bruno will need to replace its top two receivers from the last two seasons in Graham Walker and Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year finalist Wes Rockett.
• In 2023, Rockett and Walker accounted for 44.5 percent of Brown's receiving yards.
• In total, Brown will have to replace 55.6 percent of its receiving yards from last season.
• Brown has had at least 10 different receivers catch a pass in 13 of the last 20 games overall.

- Brown will kick off its 138th season of football, dating back to the first game in 1878.
- Brown is coming off its best overall season (5-5) since 2015, and its best finish in Ivy League play (3-4/t-5th) since 2016.
- The Bears boast 31 seniors/fifth-years, including 24 seniors and seven fifth-years, its largest senior class in the James Perry era.
