Second Half Shutout Helps Football Top Georgetown in Season-Opener, 26-14

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Brown football team's defense pitched a shutout in the second half enroute to a 26-14 season-opening victory at Georgetown on Saturday afternoon.

Brown will host Harvard next Saturday, September 28 in the home and Ivy League opener at Richard Gouse Field at Brown Stadium. All fans are encouraged to wear white as part of a WHITE OUT. The 1999 Ivy League championship team will be honored as part of Brown Football Alumni Day, as well as the Brown Band's centennial celebration. Kickoff is set for noon.

- Brown put up 372 yards of offense to Georgetown's 402. Brown netted 104 yards rushing while limiting the Hoyas to just 59 yards on the ground.
- Brown's defense forced three turnovers, including interceptions by Neveah Gattis and Tim Malo, and a fumble recovery by Winston Jordan.
- Isaiah Reed and John Perdue had pass breakups that led to the interceptions, and Quincy Eutsay and Owen Clarke forced fumbles with strip sacks.
- Senior Tim Malo had a career-high seven tackles with one interception and a pass breakup.
- Five Bears had six tackles apiece, including senior Caleb Moorhead who had 3.5 tackles for loss including one sack. Senior Quincy Eutsay also had six stops with 2.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, a forced fumble and pass breakup, all career-highs.
- Fifth-year Jake Willcox was 17-for-33 passing for 268 yards and two touchdowns.
- Senior Jordan DeLucia rushed for 50 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries.
- Nine Bears recorded a catch, led by junior Solomon Miller with three catches for 99 yards and a touchdown.
- Fifth-year Mark Mahoney added three catches for 78 yards and a touchdown.
- Senior Christopher Maron was 2-for-2 on field goals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Brown wasted no time jumping on the board on their first offensive play as Willcox hit Miller down the left sideline for an 87-yard touchdown catch and run at 12:30.
- The Hoyas came right back to tie the score at 8:36 on a one-yard touchdown run, capping an eight play, 74-yard drive.
- The Bears responded on their next drive with a long 45-yard pass from Willcox to Mahoney to put Brown back on top 14-7 at the 6:17 mark.
- Brown added to the lead at 6:19 of the second quarter on a 24-yard Maron field goal, set up by a big catch on the sideline by Chason Barber at the 10.
- Georgetown answered quickly with a 77-yard catch and run on third down and short to pull within 17-14.
- Brown converted multiple third downs in the closing minutes of the half, which ended on a 23-yard field goal by Maron as time expired to spot Bruno a 20-14 lead going into halftime.
- DeLucia put Brown up 26-14 at 1:14 of the third quarter when he plowed it in from one yard out. The subsequent two-point conversion was no good.
- Georgetown had a long touchdown wiped off the board as Gattis drew a huge holding call on the Hoyas. Brown's defense subsequently locked down in the red zone and forced a turnover on downs with just over 10 minutes remaining.
- Malo added a huge pass breakup on 4th-and-3 to get Brown the ball back near midfield with 4:05 remaining.
