
Volleyball Falls in Weekend Finale at UIC

CHICAGO – Brown volleyball lost a five-setter against UIC on Saturday (Sept. 14) to close out weekend play in the Windy City. For the second time this weekend, Brown lost the first two sets before forcing a deciding frame.
Ally Panzloff reached double-figures for her sixth-straight match to start the year, leading Brown with 15 kills. Beau Vanderlaan scored 12 kills, hitting .458 and finished with six blocks. Vanderlaan has now moved into third all-time in program history in career blocks (343).
Sophia Wolfson finished the match with a career-high nine kills and eight blocks. Mariia Sidorova was held under 10 kills for the first time this year, finishing with nine.
Ella Park posted 43 assists to go along with six digs. Jessie Golden led Brown's defense with 13 digs.
After dropping the first two sets 25-13 and 25-22, Brown was up 12-11 in the third set before a 4-0 run increased the lead to 16-11, capped by a block and kill by Sidorova. Brown pushed its lead to 22-14 after kills by Wolfson and Isabella Bonatakis and cruised to a 25-19 set win to keep the match alive.
Kills by Vanderlaan helped Brown jump to an early 14-9 lead. UIC attempted to cut into Brown's lead, pulling within one multiple times but the Bears never let the Flames tie the set. Up 20-19, Brown went on a 5-1 run with kills by Vanderlaan, Sidorova and Panzloff to force a deciding set.
Playing in their third five-set match this season and second of the weekend, Brown took a 6-3 lead after kills from Vanderlaan, Wolfson and Panzloff. After the teams traded runs, Brown found itself trailing by one at 12-11. The Flames scored the final three points in the set to win the match.
UP NEXT
Brown will be on the road for the final weekend of non-conference play as the Bears travel to New Hampshire for three games next Friday and Saturday.
