CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – The Brown Bears (1-0-1) traveled to the University of Virginia and defeated the Queens University of Charlotte Royals (2-1-0) in a neutral site contest.
The Bears started out strong as junior Aziza Alford and senior Akilah Cathey scored tries. Julia Murray and Genie Dickens completed the conversions to give Brown a 14-0 lead.
Queens answered quickly with two tries of their own to knot the game at 14.
Sophomore Jordan Wiseman scored a try to extend the lead, and Murray once again completed the conversion. Queens fought back and tied it at 21 late in the game.
In the 70th minute, Julia Murray converted a three-point penalty kick to secure the win for the Bears, 24-21.
"It was another tight match that our squad was able to maintain composure and finish the game," said Rosalind Chou, the Kathleen Flores Women's Rugby Head Coach. "There were times where the result could have been different and they were able to maintain physicality; we have some work to do with our discipline, as penalties really put us under pressure."
