Women's Rugby Wins Convincingly at Home

The Brown Bears (1-0-1) defeated the division 2 foe American International College (AIC) Yellow Jackets (1-0-0) by a score of 38-21.

The game began with junior Olivia Baptiste earning the first try of the game. Julia Murray completed the conversion to build a 7-0 lead. AIC answered quickly and knotted the game at 7.

Murray executed a close penalty kick to re-obtain the lead 10-7 before half.

The Bears took control of the game with scores coming from Akilah Cathey and Nikki Lynch. Both scored twice, while Murray was perfect on the conversion attempts.

Brown had a commanding 38-7 lead, but didn't finish strong. The yellowjackets scored two tries late, but the comeback fell short.

Brown got a statement win at home 38-21.

The game was a non-divisional contest, so the teams agreed on open subbing. That led to the Bears featuring most of their roster in the game.

"We were able to see a lot of student-athletes rotate through the roster tonight and saw some resilient moments against a very physical AIC side," said Rosalind Chou, the Kathleen Flores Women's Rugby Head Coach. "Everyone contributed to the team win and we are excited for our first Ivy matchup next weekend."

The Bears will visit Princeton next week on Saturday, September 28 at 12 p.m.
