
Volleyball Drops Matches to Bowling Green and DePaul on Friday

CHICAGO – Brown volleyball fell behind early and could not complete comebacks in losses to Bowling Green and DePaul on Friday (Sept. 13).
The Bears lost in five sets to Bowling Green after dropping the first two sets to the Falcons before forcing the deciding frame. Brown then lost the first two sets in a four-set loss at DePaul.
Mariia Sidorova and Ally Panzloff continue to pace the offense as both players have reached double figures in each of the five games on the season for Brown.
BOWLING GREEN 3, BROWN 2
Mariia Sidorova collected a career-high 22 kills, hitting .400, and Ally Panzloff finished with 11 kills but Brown could not complete the reverse sweep, falling to Bowling Green in five sets to start the weekend of play.
Jessie Golden led Brown's defense with 12 digs, while Kayla Griebl was second on the squad with 11.
Ella Park had 36 assists to go along with eight digs and four blocks. Beau Vanderlaan finished the match with seven digs and a team-high eight blocks.
After dropping the first 25-19 and 25-16, Brown fell behind early 6-2 in the third. A 5-0 run with two kills by Sidorova put Brown ahead and the Bears pushed their lead to 14-10 after a block by the duo of Vanderlaan and Fisayo Afonja. A kill by Afonja gave Brown set point and Vanderlaan kept the match alive with a kill two points later.
In a back and forth set four, Brown went up 23-20 after an error by the Falcons but four-straight points for Bowling Green gave the Falcons match point. A kill from Sidorova tied the set at 24 and Vanderlaan teamed with Park and Panzloff for back-to-back blocks to force a fifth set.
Brown tied the final set at four with another block by Vanderlaan and Park but Bowling Green pulled away with a 4-0 run. The Bears fought off three match points but Bowling Green put an end to the match with a 15-11 win in the final frame.
DEPAUL 3, BROWN 1
Sidorova led Brown with 15 kills and Panzloff had 13. Sidorova also picked up a double-double with 14 digs.
Vanderlaan finished the night with eight kills and eight blocks. Golden tallied 19 digs.
Julia Kakkis had 29 assists in three sets of action.
DePaul took control of the first et with a 6-1 run after kills by Vanderlaan and Panzloff had pulled Brown within two. The Bears fought off three set points but dropped set one 25-18.
Another 7-1 run by the Blue Demons put Brown in a 13-8 hole but the Bears pulled within two at 20-18 after a kill by Isabella Bonatakis. Again, Brown fought off three set points, two times with kills by Sidorova but DePaul earned a 25-22 set two win.
A service ace by Sidorova put Brown up 6-2 early in the third and a block by the duo of Sidorova and Sophia Wolfson made the score 13-9. DePaul tied the set multiple times and with the score tied at 23, a kill by Panzloff and an error by DePaul gave Brown the set.
DePaul responded in set four, going ahead 8-2 before Brown managed to pull back within two at 13-11 after a Sidorova kill. After a run by DePaul, Brown never managed to get closer than four the rest of the way, falling 25-19 to end the match.

Brown will finish up its trip in Chicago with a match at UIC on Saturday (Sept. 14) beginning at 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT.
