Softball Closes Out Season With Losses to Penn

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown softball's season came to a close, dropping both games of its doubleheader against Penn on Saturday.
Before the games, Brown honored its 2024 senior class – Moe Kastens, Jodie Aguirre, Jayme Gross, Brianna Rodriguez and Dara English.
GAME 1: Penn 6, Brown 3 – 8 Innings
Brown dropped the first game of the day to the Quakers 6-3 in eight innings. Senior Brianna Rodriguez led Brown with two hits and two RBI. Four other Bears finished the game with a hit.
The Bears got on the board in the bottom of the third with a triple by Jasmine Hsiao that scored Rodriguez. Rodriguez then added to Brown's lead in the fifth, singling up the middle and bringing home Jayme Gross.
Brown starter, Jodie Aguirre had control of the game through the first five innings but Penn broke through in the sixth with three runs, two unearned after a Brown error.
The Bears trailed by one in the seventh but Alexander singled down the line in left to start the inning. After a sac bunt by Laurel Moody, Rodriguez just missed a game-winning home run but tied the game with a double off the top of the wall.
Penn opened extra innings with a three-run eighth and the Bears were held off the scoreboard for the final score.
GAME 2: Penn 3, Brown 1
Brown's offense struggled in game two collecting only two hits, dropping the season finale 3-1 to Penn.
Penn scored a run in each of the three middle innings, leading 3-0 after five.
Brown's first hit of the game came in the sixth inning as Alexander singled up the middle to lead off the inning. Moody singled to left to put two runners on and two batters later, a walk to Hsiao loaded the bases. English brought home a run with a groundout but it was all Brown could get across.
