Women’s Track Wins at UMass Flagship Opener

AMHERST, Mass. – The Brown women's track and field team took home second place out of 14 teams on Sunday at the UMass Flagship Opener to cap a weekend of two meets for the Bears. The men finished in sixth place out of 12 teams at the meet. Brown also had a group of athletes at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational this weekend at the University of Miami.
All told, Brown athletes had six marks that landed in the top 10 all-time in their respective program's history.
UMASS FLAGSHIP OPENER
WOMEN
Emma Gallant turned in a pair of gold medal winning performances in the 100 meter dash in 12.00 seconds, and the 200m dash in 24.17 seconds, with the 200m time moving her from eighth to fifth on Brown's all-time list. Alyssa Jackson also scored points and landed in the top three of both events, earning runner-up in the 100m (12.02) and third in the 200m (24.55).
Jenna Lowrey set a new PR in the 400 meter dash at 55.35 to take home first place. Olivia Fraga took fifth place in the 800 meters (2:15.61), and Sara Perez and Olivia Bergin each scored points in the 5,000 meters in third and fourth places, respectively.
Elle Riley finished fourth in the 100 meter hurdles in 14.31, while Maddelynn Brooks (1:03.35) placed third in the 400m hurdles.
In the throws, Kendra Ezeama took third place at 13.52m and Michelyn Appiah (41.25) finished third in the discus. Kelly Rothenberg (32.73m) picked up a point in the javelin, and Chidinma Agbasi put up a second place showing in the hammer throw at 56.78m, which moved her from 10th to fourth on the program's all-time list. Sophia Galluci also medaled in the hammer, finishing third at 53.11m.
MEN
In the 100 meter dash, Daniel Sarisky finished runner-up out of 48 with a time to 10.58, followed by Elias Archie in fourth, who's time of 10.63 seconds moves him into sixth place on the program's all-time list. Sarisky also took home points on the podium in third place out of 54 runners in the 200 meters, finishing in 21.30, which moves him up to one spot to sixth on the program's all-time list.
Jesse Edelstein earned two points for his fifth place finish of 1:53.90 in the 800m. Brown earned seven points from Sam Colton, Justin Hickey and Brendan Leahey who finished fourth through sixth, respectively, in the 1500m.
In the jumps, Mubaraq Aderogba (6.89m) earned a runner-up finish out of 19 in the long jump, with Salter Arms (6.85m) landing in third place. In the throws, Karon Johnson earned fourth place in the shot put at 15.56m, while Ethan Wordell (3rd/56.07m) and Keith Daigneau (5th/53.18m) both scored in the hammer throw.
HURRICANE ALUMNI INVITATIONAL
Marcus Gillespie finished seventh out of 18 in the 100m hurdles in 14.43 seconds. In the high jump, John McNeil tied for sixth place out of 20 by clearing 2.07m, and also tied for second overall in the long jump, along with teammate Zach Love, by leaping 7.34 meters. In the javelin, Chris White finished fourth out of 11 with his throw of 62.54m.
On the women's side, Jada Joseph set the No. 6 mark in program history in the triple jump, besting her previous PR by three centimeters with a mark of 12.62m, finishing just behind teammate Lauren Yeboah-Kodie who leapt 12.73m. Rosie Volpintesta set the No. 9 mark in the heptathlon by finishing with 4,493 points. Yeboah-Kodie and Joseph tied for eighth in the long jump at 5.90m, while Rudecia Bernard led the way for Brown in fourth place of the high jump (1.77m).
