Bears Earn Pair of First Place Team Finishes at Brown Springtime Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Both the men's and women's track and field teams took home first place on Sunday at the Brown Springtime Invitational, hosted at Richard Gouse Field at Brown Stadium.
A trio of first-years set top 10 marks in program history, with thrower Ethan Wordell setting the No. 9 mark in program history in the men's hammer throw, while both Elle Riley and Maddelynn Brooks set marks in the women's 400 meter hurdles.

Brown swept the top four spots in the 100 meter dash, led by Elias Archie (10.78) in first place, Zach Love (10.81) in second and Marcus Gillespie (11.07) in third. In the 200 meters, Jack Kelley (22.19), Jason Estrada (22.65) and Matias Gersberg (22.97) also swept the podium.
Jason Estrada (48.76) took runner-up in the 400 meters, as did Henry Wood (1:56.41) in the 800m and Geordie Young (3:57.10) in the 1500m. Sebastian Margetts took the top spot in the 5,000 meters (15:00.09). Emmett Forrestel captured first place in the 400 meter hurdles, and the 4x100 and 4x400m relays teams also earned victories.
Brown took the top five spots in the long jump, led by Frank Monahan-Morang (7.25m). Karon Johnson (shot put-16.45m) and PJ McManus (javelin-41.21m) each took runner-up in their respective events, as did Wordell, who set a new personal record and the No. 9 mark in program history at 60.01 meters of the hammer throw.
WOMEN

Emma Gallant took first place in the 100 meter dash in 12.16 and Favour Akpokiere set a new PR at 12.61 seconds to take third place. Akpokiere crossed the finish line in first place in the 200 meter dash in 25.58. Kate Scanlan (57.13) won the 400 meters and Felicity Hade (2:18.77) took third place in the 800m. Sara Perez (10:57.23) and Julia Soderbury (11:06.45) took first and third, respectively, in the 3,000m.
Lauren Yeboah-Kodie broke the tape to take first place in the 100m hurdles in 14.10 seconds, with Brooke Ury taking third place in 14.68. A pair of strong performances in the 400 meter hurdles yielded two top 10 times in program history from Riley (1:02.04) and Brooks (1:02.11), landing them eighth and ninth, respectively, on the school's all-time list.
The Bears earned a clean sweep of the points in the long jump, led by Simone Dunbar (5.71m), Makaya Fofana (5.55m) and Danielle Meribe (5.52m) at the top. Rachel Bibiu took first place in the triple jump (10.58m).
Brown took first place in all four throwing events, with Michelyn Appiah winning the shot put (13.74m) and discus (42.37m), Chidinma Agbasi (54.43m) winning gold in the hammer, and Kelly Rothenberg (34.88m) in the javelin.
The Bears will now turn their attention to the Ivy League Heps this coming weekend, which will be hosted by Princeton on Saturday-Sunday, May 4-5.
