Women's Tennis Wraps Up Season at #48 Columbia
4/21/2024 6:41:00 PM | Women's Tennis
The Bears fought through their two doubles matches with a final score of 6-4. The Bears were unable to pull through, and Columbia was awarded the doubles point.Â
In singles, Phoebe Peus earned Brown their lone point after taking down Columbia's Fatima Keita (6-3, 6-3).
Columbia collected the three remaining singles points to give them the 4-1 upper hand over Brown.Â
"We lost to a quality Columbia team. They played a focused match and we didn't have the fight necessary to challenge them and make them feel uncomfortable. Phoebe played a great match at line 1 singles and beat a very good Columbia player. Phoebe has done a great job this weekend out competing her opponents and playing with much better game style clarity, using her power and ability to finish at the net," Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser said.
Today's matchup with Columbia concludes Brown's 2023-2024 season.
Schmidhauser reflected on the the Bears' season: "Today's match marks the end of our season. There have been highlights for our team this year, like Phoebe and Lindsey qualifying for Fall Nationals in doubles in November and beating Boston University for the first time in 5 years. We also experienced some heartbreaking losses this spring, but we will learn from these experiences as we shift our focus toward next year. We will use this year's experiences to keep building our championship team culture and learning how to deal with disappointments and adversity is an important part of the journey."
