Women Place First, Men Take Second at Mark Young Invite to Cap Four-Meet Weekend

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Brown women's track and field team took home first place on Saturday at the Mark Young Invitational at Yale, while the men finished second to cap a four-meet weekend.
The Bears also competed in meets at LSU, MIT and Georgia Tech on Friday and Saturday, with four female athletes earning top-10 marks in program history at LSU, including two from sprinter Alyssa Jackson.
MARK YOUNG INVITATIONAL
The women's team took home first place out of five teams with 144 total points, earning individual wins in five events. The Bears earned five points from Kate Scanlan (25.74) and Favour Akpokiere (26.08) in the 200 meters. Scanlan also added four points in the 400 meters at 57.83. Tanisha Patil ran 2:14.68 to place third in the 800 meters.
Brown combined to earn 23 points from five athletes in the 100m hurdles, led by Elle Riley in first place at 14.48 and Rosie Volpintesta (15.12) in third.
Maddelynn Brooks (1:02.60) won the 400m hurdles, followed by Elle Riley in second (1:02.70). Nene Mokonchu cleared 1.71m to win the high jump, Daryn Davis led the way for Brown in third place of the triple jump (11.71m), Nicolette Ducharme led the Bears in third place of the shot put (12.27m) and Danielle Meribe (40.27m) took home the top spot in the discus with a new PR. The team picked up two more wins in the throws from Sophia Gallucci (50.00m) in the hammer and Kelly Rothenberg (30.47m) in the javelin.
The men finished in second place out of five teams with 104 points. Jason Estrada won the 400 meters (48.80) and took fourth in the 100 meters (22.78). Jake Haley took runner-up in the 800 meters (1:54.23) and Jason Markopoulos earned a third place finish in the 1500m (3.57.13). Marcus Gillespie took home first place in the 100m hurdles (14.35).
In the jumps, Hunter Springer cleared 1.81m to take second place in the high jump, Mubaraq Aderogba (7.05m) and Sam Hurcomb (7.01m) took first and second, respectively, in the long jump. Karon Johnson led Brown with a first place showing in the shot put (15.62m) and a third place finish in the hammer (41.93m).
LSU ALUMNI GOLD INVITATIONAL
At the Alumni Gold Invitational at LSU, Brown's women's team set four marks that landed in the top 10 all-time in program history, including two from Jackson, who tied for fourth all-time in program history in the 100m dash at 11.88 seconds, and tied for seventh all-time in the 200 meters at 24.22. Thrower Kendra Ezeama moved from 10th to ninth all-time in the shot put with her mark of 14.42m, and jumper Jada Joseph moved to seventh on the program's all-time long jump list at 6.02m.
Lauren Yeboah-Kodie (6.07m) took home first place in the long jump and also finished third in the triple jump at 12.73m.
In the men's long jump, Zach Love (7.55m) and John McNeil (7.49m) finished sixth and eighth, respectively.
GEORGIA TECH INVITATIONAL
Brown was represented by its throwers at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta. Kendra Ezeama took home sixth place overall in thew shot put at 14.42 meters, moving her from 10th to ninth all-time in program history. She also finished eighth at 52.54m in the hammer throw, setting a new PR.
In the men's hammer throw, Ethan Wordell finished sixth at 57.36, and Keith Daigneau set a new PR of 53.77 to finish ninth overall.
SEAN COLLIER INVITATIONAL
Brown's distance runners competed this weekend at the Sean Collier Invitational, hosted by MIT. The women swept the podium in the 1500m invitational with Emily Mrakovcic (4:32.04), Scarlet Stimson (4:32.31)) and Stephanie Kriss (4:33.53) earning the top three spots. Isolde McManus (2nd/16:47.81) and Nimrit Ahuja (3rd/16:53.10) landed on the podium in the 5,000m invitational.
For the men, John Ryan (3:50.02) led the Bears in third place of the 1500m invitational, and Geordie Young (9:13.35) took home the gold with a win in the steeplechase.
UP NEXT
Qualified athletes will compete this coming week at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, while Brown is also set to host the Brown Springtime Invitational at Richard Gouse Field at Brown Stadium on Sunday, April 28.
