PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The tenth-ranked Yale Bulldogs (6-2, 2-1 Ivy League) tallied the final four goals of the first half to take a four-goal lead and went on to take a 16-10 Ivy League win over the Brown Bears (1-8, 0-2 Ivy League) Saturday afternoon at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
"It's a disappointing result for sure," said head coach Mike Daly. "Credit to Yale and Coach Shea, they made some key plays at the end of the second and start of the third that ended up being the difference. There's a lot of fight in this team and I'm grateful to get back to work to put our team in position to make those plays."
The Bears and Bulldogs traded goals through the first quarter and into the second with both teams striking four times. Aidan McLane scored twice with Kevin Sweeney and Forrest Demetri each scoring once.
From there, Matt Brandau ended the frame with four straight goals to become Yale's all-time leader in goals scored to give the Bulldogs an 8-4 lead at the break.
David Anderson and Machado Rodriguez opened the second half to extend Yale's lead to 10-4 before Ben Scandone tallied his first goal in a Brown uniform to end the run.
Aidan McLane added his third of the game with 8:44 remaining in the game and also scored with 3:31 remaining for a four-goal effort.
After Carson Kuhl scored with 14:07 remaining in the fourth to make it 16-8 Yale, Matteo Corsi and Marcus Wertheim scored the final goals of the game to push the final to 16-10.
