Women’s Lacrosse Dominates from Start to Finish in 19-7 win at Columbia

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Weather did not slow down one of the nation's leading offenses as No. 22 Brown University (7-2, 1-1 Ivy) dominated its way to a 19-7 win over Columbia University (2-7, 0-3 Ivy) on a rainy Saturday at Robert K. Kraft Field at Lawrence A. Wien Stadium.
Claire Mahoney (6-1) made her sixth start of the season and registered six saves in the win.
Following her three goals and four assists today, Mia Mascone's 60 points in 2024 tied Kerri Whitaker '96 for the fifth most in program single-season history.
Greta Criqui led the Bears with four goals, Leah Caputo added three goals, Annie Burton finished with two goals and three assists and Julia Ford found the net three times.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
Maddie Joyce's beautiful shot off Caputo's pass made it 1-0 Bears 1:10 into the game.
Burton and Maddie Joyce's free position goals extended the Brown lead to 3-0 with 10:45 remaining. Ford found the net as the Bears scored the game's first four goals.
The Lions scored before the first quarter media timeout, and Ford and Columbia traded goals to make it 5-2 Brown.
Mia Mascone scored and Ford tallied a hat trick in the opening stanza with a free position goal in the closing minutes. Criqui made it 8-2 Bears after one.
Natalie Ahn, Mascone and Criqui dominated the early moments of the second, extending the lead to 11-2, forcing a Lions timeout with 13:09 remaining.
Caputo followed with her second of the game to give Brown seven consecutive goals before Anna Becker put an end to the Bears' run. Brown went into the half ahead 13-4, behind Ford's three goals, Mascone's two goals and three assists, Burton, Caputo, and Criqui each collected two goals and Ahn added one.
The Bears outshot the Lions 20-8 in the first, Brown took 15 of 19 draw controls and Mahoney posted four saves.
Columbia scored first to begin the second half, but the Bears settled down to make it 17-6 with four third-quarter goals.
Carly Camphausen added a goal off the rebound in the closing seconds to defeat Columbia 19-7 on Saturday afternoon.

On Monday, the Bears visit the Sunshine State to battle Stetson (3-4, 0-0 ASUN) at 6 p.m. at the Athletic Training Center in DeLand.
