Gymnastics Takes Third Place at GEC Championships

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Brown gymnastics team took home third place on Saturday evening at the 2024 Gymnastics East Conference Championship meet, hosted by Yale University. The Bears finished the meet with 194.450 points, their third-highest total this season, and had two gymnasts – Angela Xing and Julia Bedell – earn First Team All-GEC Championship honors by finishing in the top three of the beam and floor events, respectively.

Brown started the meet off on bars with a score of 48.600, their second-highest score of the season, trailing only last weekend's season-high of 48.725. Asta-Sollilja Farrell anchored the bars for Brown and led the team in a tie for seventh place with a 9.825 performance. Lauren McKeown and Maya Davis each scored 9.750, followed by Liza Marcus (9.650) and Sophia Dewar (9.625).
Brown posted a team score of 48.400 on beam. Going fifth in the Brown rotation, Xing tied for second overall by setting a new career-high at 9.875 to tie for fifth all-time in program history. She was followed by Jessica Lin who finished tied for fourth overall at 9.850, and Marcus at 9.750
Next on floor, Brown scored 48.850 to move into a tie for second place with Yale at 145.850 through three rotations. Bedell led the way at 9.875, finishing in a seven-way tie for third place overall. Davis followed with a 9.850, Dewar scored 9.825, and Xing posted a 9.750.
Rounding out the meet on vault, Dewar tied her career-high with a 9.800 to finish tied for fourth, along with Bedell who also tallied a 9.800. Lauren Kramer finished with a 9.725, and Emily Ford followed with a 9.675.
The Bears will now shift their attention to USAG Nationals in April, along with potential qualifiers to NCAA Regionals.
