PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears kicked off the spring season in style – taking three shutout wins over regional foes on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Richard Gouse Field at Brown Stadium.
Bruno took consecutive 36-0 victories over Northeastern and Roger Williams before closing out the day with a 28-0 win over Beantown.
"The team had a successful first tournament and it's a great starting point for us this season," said Rosalind Chou, the Kathleen Flores Women's Rugby Head Coach. "It was great to host some of our New England neighbors and we really appreciate Northeastern, Roger Williams, Beantown, and Providence teams providing top competition. We have a clear idea of some work to do as we prepare for a very competitive Tropical 7s tournament over spring break."
Brown cruised to a 36-0 win over Northeastern to kick off the day of competition at the Stadium. Aziza Alford and Morgan Cunningham recorded the first two tries of the match with Nikki Lynch, Kate Muldoon, Tarn Reilly, and Ashley Amparo also touching down.
Julia Murray hit two conversions against the Huskies and Reilly added one to end the match.
The Bears continued the success in the second match against Roger Williams with Olivia Baptiste kicking off the scoring with her first try of the spring. Noelle Lewis added a pair of tries against the Hawks with Muldoon and Makayla Atoigue also scoring tries.
Bruno closed out the day with a 28-0 win over Beantown as Muldoon and Morgan Cunningham scored quick tries with Murray hitting both conversions. Lily Nowak recorded her first try of the season with Murray hitting the conversion and Amparo closed out the match with her second try of the day with Muldoon on the conversion.
