CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- The Brown Bears opened their weekend series with a win against the Harvard Crimson 3-1 in a Friday evening Ivy League matchup.
The Bears started the game off strong with their first goal coming at just 2:31 into the first period. Miranda Calderone sent the puck up the ice to Ava DeCoste, who then handed it off to Jade Iginla. Iginla's shot went through the five-hole, and gave Brown a 1-0 lead. The Bears powered through the rest of the first period totaling 11 shots on goal.
Brown opened up the second period with a second goal from Jade Iginla 3:21 into the period. DeCoste carried the puck through the middle of the ice, and sent it over to India McDadi. Iginla received a pass down at the net, and stuffed the puck in to double the Bears' lead. The Bears would finish the period with another 11 shots on goal.
Iginla lit the lamp for the third time this evening at 5:32 into the third period. Iginla picked up the puck at the blue line from DeCoste. She shot the puck which fluttered by Harvard's goaltender, Emily Davidson, and into the back of the net. This marks Iginla's second-career hat trick. Brown extended their lead to 3-0.
Halfway through the third period, Harvard's Gwynn Lapp would put the team on the board to avoid being shut out. Harvard pulled their goaltender with a minute in a half left in regulation to send the extra skater out. However, they were unsuccessful in putting up another goal. The Bears ended the game with a total of 31 shots on goal against Harvard's 12.
The Bears will now wait to see if they clinch home ice advantage after the conclusion of tonight's games.
Brown will be back in action again tomorrow evening in Hanover, New Hampshire to take on the Dartmouth Big Green at 3 p.m.
