Gymnastics Takes Down Yale in the Rumble & Tumble

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown gymnastics team finished strong to overtake Yale and win the Rumble & Tumble dual meet on Sunday afternoon. Brown posted a season-best 194.025 while the Bulldogs put up 192.900. Brown trailed entering the final rotation, but used season-high scores on bars and beam, as well as a strong floor score to pass Yale and earn the win.
The Bears are now unbeaten at home against their last 11 opponents dating back to the start of last season.
Sunday's meet was a side-by-side event with the Brown wrestling program, who simultaneously faced off against Princeton and fell 34-13.
Junior Julia Bedell won on both vault and floor, while senior Asta-Sollilja Farrell won on bars and senior Angela Xing took home the gold on beam. Farrell's bars score of 9.875 sits tied for ninth all-time in program history.
Starting off on vault, Bedell captured the top spot with a 9.800, followed in second by sophomore Sophia Dewar at 9.725. Senior Lauren Kramer and Xing tied for fourth at 9.625 as the team posted a score of 48.350 on the event.
On bars, Farrell led the way for Brown and won the event with a new career-high of 9.875, which sits in a seven-way tie for ninth in program history, with all eight marks ahead of her in program history being held by Mei Li Costa '22. Sophomore Liza Marcus tied for fifth at 9.675 while the Bears totaled 48.000.
Brown also posted a season-high of 48.725 on beam to close the gap, sweeping the top four spots overall with Xing earning a 9.800. Kramer (tied career-high 9.775) followed in second, followed by Marcus (9.750) in third and senior Lauren McKeown (9.725) in fourth. Freshman Jessica Lin took sixth place at 9.675.
Brown provided another strong performance on floor to close out the meet with a 48.950, led once again by Bedell at 9.900 and Dewar in second at 9.825. Junior Maya Davis (9.800) finished fourth and Marcus (9.750) tied for fifth.
Brown will return to action next Sunday, February 11 with a tri-meet at the University of New Hampshire with the host Wildcats and Towson.
