Odenigbno Defends Title, McNeil Sets School Record on Day One of Heps

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Brown women's track and field team sits in third place, while the men's team is in fourth after day one of the Ivy League Heptagonal Track and Field Championships. Senior Chiamaka Odenigbo successfully defended her Ivy League title in the pentathlon while posting the No. 2 score in program history.
On the men's side, senior jumper John McNeil took second place by breaking the school record in the long jump at 7.66 meters.

WOMEN
The title is Odenigbo's third career individual Ivy championship, joining last season's pentathlon and outdoor high jump crowns. Her final score of 4,027 moves her into second place all-time in program history, surpassing her previous career-high of 4,012 and trails only Lindsay Taylor '01's school record of 4,053. Odenigbo won the pentathlon's 60m hurdles with a time of 8.54 seconds. She also took first in the high jump (1.75m), second in the shot put (12.12m), second in the 800 meters (2:26.33), and third in the long jump (5.48m).
Delaney Seligman (3,526) and Rosie Volpintesta (3,390) also scored points in the pentathlon for Brown.
Junior Chidinma Agbasi finished fourth in the finals of the weight throw (18.51m). In the long jump, Brown earned points from senior Lauren Yeboah-Kodie who finished third (6.17m), good for second all-time in program history, and Jada Joseph (5.99m) for her fourth place finish. Makaya Fofana leapt 5.84m for ninth in program history.
In the prelims of the 60m hurdles, Odenigbo ran the third-fastest time in school history at 8.52 seconds to qualify for Sunday's finals. Yeboah-Kodie also qualified at 8.55 seconds to tie her own PR which sits No. 5 all-time at Brown, as did Fofana (8.71) with the ninth-fastest time in program history. Brown is the only school with more than one qualifier in the finals.
The Bears also put two runners into Sunday's finals of the 500 meters, with sophomore Jenna Lowrey running the tenth-fastest time in program history of 1:14.97, and freshman Tanisha Patil also qualified for the finals in 1:16.83.
Stephanie Kriss ran the 10th fastest time in program history in the 1,000 meter prelims in 2:52.87.
MEN
For the men, McNeil took runner-up in the long jump to highlight Brown's performances with his school record mark of 7.66 meters, surpassing teammate Zach Love's previous benchmark by one centimeter. Love finished the event close behind in third place with 7.59 meters.
Keith Daigneau turned in an 18.60m score in the weight throw to take over the No. 8 slot in program history.
Sophomore Elias Archie tied the No. 2 all-time mark in program history of 6.82 seconds to qualify for Sunday's 60 meter dash finals. Jason Estrada tightened his grip on the No. 4 time in program history in the 400 meters prelims at 48.12 to qualify for Sunday's finals.
Day two of Heps will get underway at 11:30 a.m. at Harvard's Gordon Indoor Track.
