ALBANY, N.Y. - No. 23 Brown women's lacrosse scored the first three goals of the game and never looked back as the Bears (2-0) picked up a 14-10 win at UAlbany (0-4) Tuesday afternoon.
The Bears had a balanced scoring attack as senior Mia Mascone led the team for the second straight game with three goals. Seniors Nathalie Ahn, Julia Ford and Carly Camphausen, and junior Greta Criqui each had two goals, while senior Maddie Joyce, junior Paige Gillen, and sophomore Kiki Tormey all scored once. Junior Annie Burton led the team with two assists.
Sophomore Claire Mahoney finished with six saves to improve her record to 2-0 on the year.
Brown got it started quickly as Ford scored the first two goals in the first five minutes and Mascone netted her first of the game with 8:44 on the clock for a 3-0 lead. After UAlbany's first goal of the game, Mascone got another and Criqui found the back of the net to make for a 5-2 advantage at the end of the first.
The second period was a defensive battle until the final minutes when Camphausen and Gillen both scored to take a 7-4 lead into the half.
Ahn got the scoring started in the third to make it 8-4. UAlbany then closed its deficit to 8-6 and Brown closed the third on a 3-1 run to go up, 11-7, after the third.
Tormey began the fourth with her first goal of the year and the Bears had an answer for each UAlbany goal with one of their own to secure the victory.
Brown hosts Sacred Heart on Saturday at 12 p.m. for its home opener.
