"I am pleased to welcome Peri back on our team, this time in a coaching role. Peri has been a great advocate for women's sports, especially collegiate sports, and I am excited for our players to have such a great role model. She is one of the hardest working people I know and I look forward to working with her side by side as we continue to raise the bar of excellence for Brown women's tennis." said Schmidhauser.
Peri Sheinin is one of the best tennis players to come out of Rhode Island. In high school, she went undefeated over four years of regular season play, compiling a 68-0 record along with three RIIL Division I State Championship titles.
In 2020, Sheinin was named the Providence Journal Rhode Island Player of the Decade. She also captured two gold balls at the USTA National Women's Open Grass Court Championships. In college, Sheinin played for the Bears and graduated with an Honors degree in English while maintaining a 4.0 GPA.
After graduation, Sheinin spent three years as a sports broadcaster. She founded, and is the host of On The Rise, the first show devoted to women's college tennis. On The Rise is part of the Tennis Channel Podcast Network. Sheinin has also served as a play-by-play commentator covering college and professional tennis for Cracked Racquets on ESPN digital platforms.
In addition to her work in sports media, Sheinin is a strong voice advocating for women in sports. She uses her podcast and social platforms to discuss mental health, body image, and identity evolution during and after competitive sports.
