Men’s Basketball Welcomes Maine for Home Opener on Sunday Afternoon

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown men's basketball team will welcome Maine to the Pizzitola Sports Center for its home opener on Sunday, tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on ESPN+ and The Varsity Network.
Scott Cordischi, Russ Tyler '71, and Nick Coit will bring you the action live on ESPN+. Jake Levin and Kevin McNamara will bring you the action on the Brown Varsity Network via the Brown Bears app, Varsity Network app, or BrownBears.com.
Sunday will be the team's Youth Day. There will be free admission for fans 12 and under and post game autograph opportunities. Fans can view the full promotional schedule here.
Last Time Out
Brown suffered a season-opening overtime loss at Siena, 72-71 (Nov. 4). Kino Lilly Jr. led the Bears with 18 points on 4-9 shooting from three-point range.
As a team, Brown shot 43.8 percent from the field and had nine blocks.
Kino Chasing History
Kino Lilly Jr. sits third all-time in program history with 244 three-pointers made. The senior is 13 triples behind program leader JR Hobbie, who has 257 career three-pointers made.
Lilly Jr. also sits fifth all-time in career points with 1,424, Lilly Jr. is 249 points away from being the second-leading scorer in program history. Lilly Jr. looks to become the fourth Bear to earn First Team All-Ivy honors in three consecutive seasons, the last player to do so was Jason Forte (2003-05).
Lilly Jr. was also named to the Bracketeer.Org All-American Watch List.
AC's Career Night
Senior Aaron Cooley had a career-best 15 points and 15 rebounds in Brown's season-opening loss at Siena. Cooley notched 15 points against Rhode Island College (Nov. 16, 2023).
Brown trailed Siena 48-40 with 9:53 remaining in regulation, Cooley sparked a 10-2 run while scoring eight out of the 10 Brown points. Cooley shot 7-15 from the floor, his even field goals made was a career-high.
Out of Cooley's 15 rebounds, 12 were defensive and three were offensive.
Lewis' Leap
In the absence of Nana Owusu-Anane, Landon Lewis stepped to the forefront in his first-ever start for the Bears. Lewis netted 10 points while grabbing a career-high nine rebounds in Brown's season opener at Siena. The junior shot 5-12 from the floor in a career-high 23 minutes of action.
Lewis also blocked four shots against Siena, also a career-high. Out of Lewis' nine rebounds, five were defensive and four were offensive.
Block Party
Brown's nine blocks against Siena was the most for the Bears since they had 10 rejections against Loyola (Md.) (Nov. 11, 2023).. Landon Lewis' four blocks was the most for a player since teammate Nana Owusu-Anane rejected five shots against Dartmouth (Feb. 3, 2023).
Lyndel Erold and N'famara Dabo each had two blocks while Aaron Cooley had one rejection.
JJ Enters Uncharted Waters
Freshman Jeremiah Jenkins became the first freshman to start a season opener for Brown since Desmond Cambridge and Matt Dewolf in the 2017-18 season opener. Jenkins chipped in six points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals in his collegiate debut.
Deep Rotation
In Brown's season opener against Siena, Head Men's Basketball Coaching Chair Mike Martin '04 extended the team's rotation to 10 players. All 10 players who saw action against the Saints appeared in the first half. Malcolm Wrisby-Jefferson, N'famara Dabo, Adrian Uchidiuno, David Rochester, and Sam Klores all came off the bench within the first 14 minutes of the contest.
Dabo came off the bench and logged a career-high 14 minutes and earned a career-high two blocked shots. Wrisby-Jefferson played a career-high 17 minutes and earned career-highs in points (4) and assists (3).
History
Brown is 11-8 overall against Maine and 7-3 at the Pizzitola Sports Center, the Bears are also 4-2 under Martin '04 and a perfect 3-0 at home against Maine under Martin '04.
Last season, Brown fell 60-49 at Maine.The 49 points scored by Brown was the lowest point total of the season for the Bears and 60 points was the second-lowest point total for an opponent
last season.
