Women’s Basketball Takes Down Colorado State 69-63

BAYAMÓN, Puerto Rico- The Brown women's basketball team (3-5) beat the Colorado State Rams (6-3) 69-63, in their final contest of the Puerto Rico Clasico on Saturday.
Junior guard Grace Arnolie led the Bears in the game, netting 20 points, grabbing nine rebounds, and posting five assists.
First year guard Gia Powell continues to make strides, scoring the second-most points on Brown with 15.
Arnolie got the Bears on the board in the first quarter with a layup, to send the Bears on an eight point run. Powell closed out the first quarter with a three-pointer to give Brown a 17-13 lead after ten minutes.
Powell and Arnolie continued their tear into the second quarter, totaling eight points. First-year forward Aima Ofunrein hit a jump shot to cap the Bears at ten points ahead of the half. Colorado attempted to knot things up before the break with 11 points in the quarter, but still trailed Brown by three at the half (27-24).
Both teams came out of the break ready to battle and earn a win. The scoring bounced back and forth for the majority of the third quarter. Around the halfway mark of the third, the Rams' Marta Leimane tied things up at 38 points. Colorado rallied through the end of the quarter, netting a total of 25 points and taking the lead, 49-44.
It all came down to the fourth quarter to determine a winner of the contest. The scoring continued to alternate between teams until there was a minute and a half remaining in regulation. Senior guard Isaella Mauricio hit a crucial three-pointer giving the Bears a three point advantage over the Rams. Sophomore guard Olivia Young hit a three, giving the Bears more security in their win. Junior forward Beth Nelson and Grace Arnolie topped off the win with three free throws.

The Bears will host Stonehill for Mental Health Awareness Night, on Thursday Dec. 5. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
