Women's Hockey Faces Off Against Providence and Holy Cross Over Weekend

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown women's hockey takes to the road for the Mayor's Cup against Providence on Saturday before returning home for a contest against Holy Cross on Sunday.
Puck drop is set for 3 p.m. for both games and both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
SKATE SHAVINGS
• Brown takes a break from ECAC play as the Bears hit the road for the Mayor's Cup at Providence on Saturday at 3 p.m. The Bears will then host Holy Cross to finish up the weekend on Sunday with puck drop also set for 3 p.m.
• The Bears broke a five-game losing streak, picking up a tie against No. 9 St. Lawrence the last time Brown took the ice. The lone goal that Brown allowed to the Saints was the fewest Brown had allowed since back-to-back games at Dartmouth and Harvard.
• Brown will play five of its next seven games against non-ECAC teams over the next month before finishing the year with 10-straight ECAC contests.
SCOUTING THE FRIARS
• Providence is 7-6-3 on the season and went 1-0-1 in a weekend series against Harvard last weekend.
• Three of the last four games that Providence has played has gone to overtime with all three games ending in a tie.
• Reichen Kirchmair was named Hockey East Player of the Week after scoring two goals and a shootout winner against Harvard.
• The Friars are 6-2-2 on the season at Schneider Arena.
• Hope Walinski has been strong in net for PC with a 1.76 goals agains average and a .931 save percentage.
INSIDE THE SERIES
• Providence has owned the Mayor's Cup in recent history, winning the last nine meetings. Brown last won in 2014.
• The last time Brown won at Providence was a 2-1 win on Nov. 25, 2011.
SCOUTING THE CRUSADERS
• Holy Cross is 5-7-1 on the season and will play Assumption on Saturday before playing the Bears.
• The Crusaders have just one win (2-1 (ot) at Vermont) in their last eight games.
• Emily Crovo leads the Crusaders with six goals and eight points.
• Holy Cross has split time between Abby Hornung and Brooke Loranger in goal as both goalies have played in seven games. Hornung leads the way with a 1.80 GAA and .941 save percentage.
INSIDE THE SERIES
• Brown is 4-2-0 in the six games against Holy Cross in a series that started back in 2018.
• The Bears and Crusaders split two games last season with both teams winning on their home ice. Both games last season went to overtime and the last three games were all decided by one goal.
HITTING THE CENTURY MARK
• Anna Shelden played in her 100th career game when the Bears played host to Yale on Nov. 17.
• Two other Bears are set to reach the 100-game mark this season with Cameron Sikich having played in 99 games and Jess Ciarrocchi having played in 96 games.
BROWN IN THE POLLS
• Brown was ranked 15th in the Oct. 28th USCHO Women's Hockey rankings. It is the first time since Oct. 23, 2006 that the Bears have appeared in the poll.
• Brown was ranked No. 14 in both the USCHO and USA Hockey polls the week of No.v 4th.
• It is the first time since the final poll of the 2005-06 season that Brown has been ranked in the USA Hockey poll.
• Brown remained in both polls sitting 15th for the week of Nov. 11.
CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN
• Junior Jade Iginla will wear the 'C' for the Bears this season after earning the captain vote by her teammates.
• Iginla led Brown in scoring with 27 points and 16 goals in her sophomore year. This comes after scoring 17 goals and totaling 23 points as a freshman.
• Iginla was also selected to participate on the Canadian National Women's Development Team this summer.
DONNING THE 'A'
• Three Bears were named assistant captains this season. India McDadi, Cameron Sikich and Anna Shelden all earned the honor from their teammates.
RETURNING FIREPOWER
• Brown boasts and impressive group of returners as Brown returns 87% (53-61 goals) of its goal scoring from a season-ago.
• The top-five goal scorers from last year are back, led by Iginla (16) and McDadi (9). They are followed by Margot Norehad (7), Sam Broz (6) and Ava DeCoste (5).
• The Bears also return their top-six point scorers from a season ago. Added to the top-five in goal scoring plus assists is Cameron Sikich who finished with 10 assists last campaign.
FINDING THE NETMINDING
• Brown will have to replace its mainstay between the pipes from a season ago as Kaley Doyle finished her Brown career last season.
• Doyle played 29 of Brown's 32 games last season and finished with a 2.25 goals against average.
• Rory Edwards is the lone returning goaltender on Brown's roster and had just three appearances before this season.
• Brown also has freshmen Anya Zupkofska on the roster. Zupkofska played in Brown's 6-0 win over McGill in an exhibition to start the season.
LIGHTING THE LAMP
• Brown's offense came to play in the first two games of the season as the Bears scored 14 total goals in the wins over Franklin Pierce.
• The eight goals in the first game were the most since Brown scored 10 goals in a win at Sacred Heart on Dec. 7, 2011.
• The 14 goals are tied for the most in a two-game stretch with Dec. 7, 2011 and Jan. 4 2011 when the Bears scored 10 against Sacred Heart and four against Yale.
• The last time Brown scored six or more goals in back-to-back games came in the 2016-17 season when the scored six and seven goals in games against Sacred Heart.
• Brown scored a goal in the first eight games to start the season. It is the longest streak to start a season since Brown went 13 games in the 2014-15 campaign.
WEEKLY HONORS
• Senior defensewoman Cameron Sikich was named ECAC Defender of the Week after her performance in two games against Franklin Pierce (Oct. 22).
• Sikich finished the two-game series with three goals and two assists.
• Senior defensewoman Cameron Sikich was named ECAC Defender of the Week for the second time this season after tallying three assists in the wins over Dartmouth and Havard (Nov. 5).
STRONG START FOR THE BEARS
• Brown started 6-0-0 in a season for the first time since the 1992-93 season. That season the Bears won their first eight games of the season en route to a 15-8-1 mark.

• Rory Edwards has stepped up for Brown in net, holding a 5-1-0 record and allowing just one goal in four of her first six outings.
• The last time Brown allowed one goal or less in four of five games was when the Bears did so in four-straight games from Nov. 6 to Nov. 19 of 2010.
• Katie Jamieson was in the net for the Bears during that streak.
• Overall, Brown only allowed one goal in five of the first six games this season. The Bears have not had a stretch like that since Nov. 19 to Dec. 4 of 2004.
FANTINO'S FOUR POINTS
• Olivia Fantino had an impressive start to her college career with four points in Brown's win over Franklin Pierce. The four points are the most since Janice Yang against St. Lawrence Nov. 1, 2014.
