BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Brown men's basketball team (3-3) earned an 83-76 win at Canisius (0-7) on Saturday at the Koessler Athletic Center.
"The game was kind of a tale of two halves, good defense in the first half to give us a lead and offensively in the second half but I thought our defense gave up a lot of points, " Head Men's Basketball Coaching Chair Mike Martin '04 said. "Winning is hard, winning on the road is even harder, we're growing, improving, and getting better. With that said I would've loved to have seen our defensive intensity greater in the second half."
The Bears hit 50 percent of their shots in the first half (13-26) as Landon Lewis led the way offensively with 12 points on 6-8 shooting from the floor. AJ Lesburt Jr. picked up where he left off in the first half after a career-high 22 points against Sacred Heart (Nov 17) with seven points on 2-4 shooting from three-point range.
Brown led by as much as 12 in the first half as they took a 35-25 lead into the second half.
After being held to three points (1-7 shooting) in the first half, Kino Lilly Jr. exploded for 18 second half points on 4-5 shooting from three-point range. The senior finished with 21 points, this is the 11th consecutive game Lilly Jr. has scored in double figures and the fourth consecutive game with 20 or more points.
Along with Lilly Jr., Lyndel Erold scored 13 second half points, giving him a career-high 16 points in the contest. Erold shot 4-6 from the field (2-3 from three-point range) in the second half.
Canisius cut the Brown lead to 77-74 with 39 seconds remaining but Brown closed the game on a 6-2 run to earn the win. Lilly Jr. scored all six points during the run from the free-throw line.
The Bears had five players score in double figures as Lewis scored in double figures for the sixth time in as many games this season with 17 points, he also had eight rebounds. Aaron Cooley recorded his third double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
