PROVIDENCE, R.I.- Brown Men's Crew Coaching Chair Paul Cooke has announced the promotion of Rufus Biggs to Ever True Men's Crew Associate Head Coach, and Scott Cockle to first assistant coach.
"Rufus has been hard working, loyal, and deeply committed to the success of the team. I admire his ability to focus on the task at hand, and to build team spirit through consistent performance," said Head Coach Paul Cooke.
Rufus Biggs was a two-time captain for Brown, and also received the Dave Zucconi '55 Award given to the person who best embodies the ideals of sportsmanship and fair play. He is dedicated to the craft of coaching, and has just recently received his Master's Degree in Sport Physiology.
"I am impressed by the discipline Rufus brings to his work at the boathouse. He has made a great contribution to Brown men's crew, and I am pleased and honored to see him named the Ever True Men's Crew Associate Head Coach," said Cooke.
As a competitor, Scott Cockle was a two-time U23 World Champion with Great Britain, and a Henley Royal Regatta Champion with Oxford Brookes University.
"Scott understands how the top athletes in the world train and perform, and has shown that he knows how to win championships. His competitive instincts are impressive, and he knows how to get the most out of the athletes that he works with," Cooke said. "He is not afraid of demanding a lot from others and he knows how to bring people into alignment. I am thrilled that Scott is moving into the first assistant coach position."
Rufus Biggs and Scott Cockle were instrumental in building the team that won the Ivy League Championship in 2024.
"They understand the sport, they are teachers and leaders. The quality of the work that they bring to our team is second to none. It has been great to see these men in action as mentors and coaches. I am grateful to the University and athletic administration for recognizing the good work being done. I am grateful to the people who helped make this happen financially. The future of the team is bright," Head coach Paul Cooke said.
