Women's Rugby Season Ends With Semi-Final Loss to Dartmouth
11/16/2024 5:45:00 PM | Women's Rugby
HANOVER, N.H. – The Brown Bears (4-2-1) traveled to play the Dartmouth Big Green (7-0-0) in a win-or-go-home playoff semi-final contest. Dartmouth won the game by a score of 47-33.
It was very competitive early as both teams seemed ready to play right from the start.
Dartmouth scored first, earning a try and a conversion to take a 7-0 lead.
Brown was trying to hold their own, but Dartmouth wasted little time doubling the lead to 14.
The Bears quickly responded, marching down the field in a hurry as sophomore Lily Nowak scored her fifth try of the season. Julia Murray executed the conversion to cut the lead in half.
The match became a high scoring affair quickly, as Dartmouth scored another try and conversion of their own to make it 21-7.
Dartmouth scored another try, but senior Akilah Cathey imposed her will to answer with a try of her own.
Brown showed fight late in the first half as Dartmouth led 26-14 at the break.
Dartmouth continued to dominate into the second half as they scored to extend their lead, 33-14. It was followed by an immediate Brown score by Elizabeth Mahoney and another conversion by Murray to tighten the game at 33-21.
Scoring was plentiful as the game wore on. Dartmouth extended their lead to 19 and never looked back, winning 47-33.
"It was an incredible season for the team and 33 points is the most points scored against Dartmouth by anyone this year," said Kathleen Flores women's rugby head coach Rosalind Chou. "It was a huge improvement on performance from two weeks ago and the coaching staff couldn't be more proud of the effort and fight until the very end. There were a number of standout performances and Olivia Baptiste shined at outside center, the first time she's been asked to play in that position. Aziza Alford, Nikki Lynch, and Elizabeth Mahoney put in an incredible amount of work with the rest of our forward pack. Our kicking game kept us in the game and we have so much to build on for the future."
