Volleyball at Cornell and Columbia to Close Regular Season

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown volleyball closes out the regular season with games at Cornell and Columbia. The Bears battling for a spot in the Ivy League Tournament in the final weekend of the season.
The match at Cornell will begin at 7 p.m. and the match at Columbia starts at 6 p.m. Both matches will stream on ESPN+.

- Brown finishes up the regular season with matches at Cornell and Columbia. The fight for the Ivy League tournament will come down to the final weekend for multiple teams, including the Bears. Brown sits in fourth place, one game behind Cornell for third and one game ahead of Penn in fifth.
- Julia Kakkis continues to the shine for Brown and earned her third Ivy League Rookie of the Week honor in the last four weeks. Kakkis had 45 assists against Harvard and a 49-assist, 16-dig double-double in the win over Dartmouth. She is currently averaging 8.73 assists per set but has bumped that number up to 9.74 assists per set during Ivy League play. Over the last two weekends of play, Kakkis has averaged 10.82 assists per set, including 40+ assists in three of the four matches.
- Sophia Wolfson has emerged for the Bears in the last three matches. After returning from injury, Wolfson has averaged 1.86 kills per set and 1.50 blocks per set. She collected seven kills against both Princeton and Harvard and had five blocks against the Tigers and six against the Crimson. Against Dartmouth Wolfson set career-highs with 12 kills and 10 blocks. It is the first time a Bear has had 10 blocks in a match since Gabby Derrick had 10 against Columbia on Oct. 28, 2022.
- Cornell is 13-8 on the season and 7-5 in Ivy League play. The Big Red are currently in third place in the Ivy League, one game ahead of the Brown.
- The Big Red earned a 3-1 win over Penn the last time they took the court.
- Cornell is the top blocking team in the Ivy League with 2.54 per set. That mark sits 38th in the NCAA. The defense is also holding opponents to a league-low .178 hitting (51st in the NCAA).
- Camryn Carlo is tops in the Ivy League and 21st in the NCAA with 1.38 blocks per set.
- Mackenzie Parsons is second in the league and 20th in the nation in hitting percentage (.402)
- Prior to the 3-0 loss earlier this season, Brown had won six-straight games against Cornell.
- The Bears last lost in Ithaca in 2019, falling in four sets.
- Columbia is 4-17 overall and 1-11 in the Ivy League. The Lions have lost two-straight after beating Harvard in five sets.
- Hailee Watts leads an offense that has struggled all season with 2.75 kills per set. That number sits ninth in the Ivy League.
- Brown swept Columbia for the third-straight match earlier this season and the fifth time in the last six meetings.
- The Bears have won 10-straight matches against Columbia, last losing to the Lions in 2018 in four sets.
- Brown has started to collect some Ivy League weekly honors as the Bears have started to heat up.
- Masha Sidorova earned her first-career Ivy League Player of the Week on Nov. 11 with her performances against Dartmouth and Harvard.
- Julia Kakkis has earned Ivy League Rookie of the Week three times, including most recently on Nov. 11.
- Kayla Griebl earned her first Ivy League Player of the Week on Oct. 21.
- Victoria Vo sits one ace away from 100-career aces.
- Victoria Vo is the most recent member of the 1,000-dig club at Brown having reached the milestone against Penn on Oct. 5.
- Jessie Golden also reached the 1,000 dig mark in the match against Penn on Nov. 1.
- Senior Beau Vanderlaan is etching her name in the Brown record book when it comes to blocks. Vanderlaan reached 400-career blocks and became the second Bear to reach that mark in her career (Leyla Goldsmith '97 - 428).
- Vanderlaan also has a career blocks per set mark of 1.1, which would be the best number by a Bear in program history.
