Field Hockey Shuts Down Bryant 5-0
10/6/2024 4:23:00 PM | Field Hockey
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Zoe Lawrence, Mia Karine Myklebust, Katie McCallum, Lexi Pellegrino and Gretchen Scott all scored for the Bears (4-5, 2-1 Ivy) leading them to a 5-0 win over Bryant University (3-8, 0-2 America East) Sunday afternoon, and going 2-0 on the weekend.
"It was certainly a positive weekend," said Head Coach Britt Broady. "Earning a shut-out is a team effort, as is scoring five goals."
Kylee Del Monte recorded a shutout this afternoon, her first of the season and fourth of her career.
"Our game today was a great end to a fun weekend full of scoring! It really was a full team effort and felt good to be able to excel for the majority of the game," said Pellegrino
The Bears opened up the scoring less than three minutes into the game when Zoe Lawrence recorded a goal, Imogen Govan was credited with the assist.
Less than ten minutes later, Mia Karine Myklebust scored off of a penalty kick, bringing the Bears to a 2-0 lead. Brown went scoreless through the second period entering halftime up by 2.
"By looking at the scoreline, it's apparent our attack was connected and dangerous. I am equally pleased, however, with our backfield's poise and control against a very physical Bryant team," said Coach Broady.
With less than five minutes in the third quarter, McCallum scored. Just about 15 seconds later, Pellegrino followed, tallying a goal of her own.
With less than seven minutes remaining in regulation, Gretchen Scott recorded her first goal of the season and of her collegiate career, bringing the bears to 5-0. The goal was assisted by Jule Rothenberger.
"This weekend and today's game specifically was a big step forward for this program and our season," said Mikayla Walsh. "Being able to bring together all of the aspects we have been working so hard in practice was really rewarding. We're looking forward to keeping the momentum going!"
The Bears keep the momentum going as they are set to head to New Jersey on Friday, Oct. 11 for some conference play against Princeton. The game is set for a 4 p.m. start and will be streaming on ESPN+.
