10/11/2024 6:42:00 PM | Field Hockey
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Lexi Pellegrino and Alexandra Madrid scored for the Bears (4-6, 2-2 Ivy) Friday afternoon as they traveled to Princeton (7-4, 4-0 Ivy) for some Ivy play, but ultimately fell 4-2 to the Tigers.
"We started out a little flat and Princeton took advantage of the early opportunities," said head coach Britt Broady. "It then became a very tight game and we attacked with a lot of energy and grit.
Princeton opened up the scoring late in the first quarter as Ottilie Skyes scored off of a penalty corner, she was assisted by Grace Schulz.
A minute later, Tiger Ella Cashman redirected a corner shot earning her a goal, she was assisted by Beth Yeager.
Both teams went through the second scoreless, entering halftime 2-0 Princeton.
Brown opened up scoring less than two minutes into the third quarter as Lexi Pellegrino recorded a goal, her fifth of the season. She was assisted by Imogen Govan.
The Tigers followed as Skyes recorded her second goal of the game. Yeager followed, recording a goal just over a minute later. Pru Lindsey and Izzy Morgan earned the assists.
"All of their goals were scored on penalty corners on which Beth Yaeger, a 2024 Olympian, plays a vital role for Princeton... and USA.
Just over three minutes into the fourth, Alexandra Madrid scored for the Bears. It was her first goal of the season, and of her collegiate career.
The Bears fought the Tigers for the full 60 minutes, not backing down, continuing to produce and defend goalkeeper Kylee Del Monte. Del Monte played the entire game, facing 11 shots.
"The Brown team is continuing to improve in all areas of the game. And we have work to do to earn our place in the Ivy League Tournament."
