PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Senior Nana Owusu-Anane of the Brown men's basketball team will be out indefinitely to begin the 2024-25 season after having recently completed successful surgery on his left shoulder, Men's Basketball Coaching Chair Mike Martin '04 announced.
"We obviously feel so badly for Nana and our main focus is getting him the support and treatment that he needs," Martin said. "He's in great hands with the medical team that is in place and I know that he'll attack his recovery like he always does and will come back from this better than he was before. This will be a tremendous opportunity for other players to emerge during his absence.
Through three seasons with the Bears, the two-time captain has made 77 appearances to go along with 59 starts. During the 2023-24 season, Owusu-Anane picked up Second Team All-Ivy honors while averaging career-highs in points (15.0), rebounds (8.8), assists (2.1) and steals (1.3) while shooting a career-high 46.8 percent from the field. Nana's 8.8 rebounds per contest ranked third in the Ivy League and his 15.0 points per game ranked eighth in the Ivy League.
Owusu-Anane also helped the Bears earn their first-ever Ivy League Tournament appearance and victory, he poured in 18 points and a game-high 15 rebounds in Brown's 90-81 win over top-seeded RV Princeton.
Owusu-Anane recorded double-digit points in 25 games and had 20-plus points in six games during the 2023-24 season, his 8.8 rebounds per game was the ninth-best in program history while posting 11 double-doubles.
Through his career, Owusu-Anane has averaged 10.8 points and 7.1 rebounds on 45.9 percent shooting. His career-best effort came against Columbia on Jan. 21, 2023 as the Burlington, Ont. native poured in a career-high 27 points, 18 rebounds and 11 field goals made.
During the 2022-23 campaign, Owusu-Anane averaged 10.3 points and 8.2 rebounds per contest while making 24 starts in 25 appearances. Owusu-Anane also had a career-best five blocks at Dartmouth on Feb. 3, 2023.
