Women's Tennis Competes at Ivy Invitational
10/25/2024 8:00:00 PM | Women's Tennis
PHILADELPHIA, Penn.- The Brown women's tennis team had a strong start at the first day of the Ivy League Invitational.
"We had a really good first day. Ali and Anne fought their way through round one of doubles. In singles, we lost three out of four first sets. We then battled back in all three of those matches and forced our opponents into a third set. We were able to win two of those matches in the end. Hannah was the only girl who got the job done in two straight sets. The girls did a good job problem solving, which has been a focus for us this fall in practice and competition," Assistant Coach Sophia Geier said.
The pairing of Anne Moody and Ali Maguy competed against Penn's Maya Urata and Lara Stojanovski. Moody and Maguy earned the win over Urata and Stojanovski (8-6), advancing them to the quarterfinals. The duo is set to compete against Dartmouth's Elizabeth Fahrmeier and Lexi Dewire in the quarterfinals.
Hannah Shen and Dani Ben-Abraham also competed in doubles. The pairing was knocked off by Princeton's Pearlie Zhang and Bella Chhiv with a final score of 8-6.
In singles, Dani Ben-Abraham battled with Dartmouth's Valentina Cruz-Bonilla. Ben-Abraham ultimately came out on top, advancing to the next round (2-6, 6-2, 7-6(5)).
Ali Maguy competed against Penn's Maya Urata again, this time in singles. Maguy and Urata battled throughout the match, with Maguy earning the win in three sets.
Anne Moody met Penn's Lara Stojanovski for the second match of the day. The match was taken to three sets, but Stojanovski was victorious and punched her ticket to the next round.
Hannah Shen dominated in her match with Penn's Sarah Wang. Shen got the job done in two sets, advancing her to the next round.
The Bears will compete at day two of the Ivy League Invitational on Saturday.
