Football to Host Cornell on Family Weekend

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown football team will host Cornell this Saturday afternoon on Family Weekend. It will also be the team's annual Pink Game in conjunction with Brown's annual Bench Press for Cancer which took place this past Monday.
Kickoff is set for noon from Richard Gouse Field at Brown Stadium with the game being televised live throughout New England on NESN, as well as streamed on ESPN+, with an audio broadcast available on the Learfield Varsity Network at BrownBears.com/Audio.

Brown Bears Football Report: Episode 6
OPENING KICKOFF
- Both teams are among four squads tied for third at 1-1 in the Ivy League standings, and are evened up overall at 2-3.
- The game will feature the top two passing offenses in the Ivy League, led by Brown QB Jake Willcox (257.6 passing ypg) and Cornell's Jameson Wang (241.0).
- Both squads rank second (Brown-395.2) and third (Cornell-393.2) in the Ivy League in total offense.
SERIES HISTORY
- Brown leads the all-time series 38-31-1 with a 20-14 mark in Providence.
- Cornell has won five of the last six matchups, including two in a row.
- Eight of the last 10 matchups in the series have seen the winning team score at least 34 points.
- Four of the last seven matchups have been decided by one possession.
THE KID'S GOT IT!
- Rookie tailback Matt Childs was one of 30 freshmen named to the Watch List for the Jerry Rice Award this week.
- Presented by Stats Perform, the award is presented annually to the top freshman player in FCS Football.
- His 56.40 receiving yards per game rank eighth in the Ivy League, while his 33.20 rushing yards per contest rank 15th, with both marks leading all Ivy rookies.
- He has twice been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week this season.
- Princeton linebacker AJ Pigford is the only other Ivy Leaguer on the watch list.
HEAD OF THE PACK
- Senior linebacker Caleb Moorhead ranks 14th in the nation and first in the Ivy League with 1.4 tackles for loss per game. His 7.0 total tackles for loss are one more than Princeton's Marco Scarano and Dartmouth's Josiah Green for the league lead.
HE'S BACK!!
- Senior DB Isaiah Reed returned last week after missing three games. He recorded 6.0 tackles, a sack, and an interception in the end zone.
- Isaiah Reed led the Ivy League in passes defended (13) and interceptions (5) in 2023.
CLIMBING THE LADDER
- Jake Willcox moved into second place on the school's all-time career completions list (573) on Oct. 18 at Princeton, surpassing EJ Perry '21 (546). He trails only his head coach James Perry '00 (789).
- Willcox also moved into third place all-time on the career passing yards list (6,009) on Oct. 18. He sits behind Jason McCollough (6,735) and James Perry (9,294).
- Willcox also ranks fifth all-time for career touchdown passes (37). He needs three more to pass Kyle Newhall-Caballero (39) for fourth place all-time.
- Isaiah Reed is just four pass breakups away from tying for second place on the school's all-time career list.

LIMITING THE FLOW
- Junior defensive back Nick Hudson ranks second in the Ivy League and fifth in all of FCS Football with 1.6 passes defended per game. His eight passes defended this season are two behind Columbia's Carter McFadden.
SMITH TAKING CHARGE
- Junior linebacker Sam Smith has taken charge at the linebacker position, setting new career-highs in tackles in three consecutive games to start the year.
- He registered a team-leading 13.0 against Bryant, 7.0 against Harvard and 6.0 stops against Georgetown.
- His career-high entering the season was 3.0, which he accomplished three times last season.
PASSING ATTACK
- The Bears lead the Ivy League in passing offense (258.6).
- Quarterback Jake Willcox ranks among the nation's leaders in the following categories:
- Passing yards/game: (257.6 - 7th in FCS | 1st in Ivy)
- Completions/game: (22.20 - 11th in FCS | 2nd in Ivy)
- Total Offense: (293.0 - 7th in FCS | 1st in Ivy)
LONG AND SHORT SCORES
- Twelve of Brown's 17 touchdowns this season have come on passes of 45 yards or more (four), or rushes of two yards or less (eight). Of those eight scoring rushes, seven have been one-yard runs.
PENCHANT FOR BIG PLAYS
- Opponents have scored a touchdown of 43 yards or greater in 11 of the last 14 games, including three of the five games in 2024.
- On Sept. 28, Bryant scored two touchdowns of 31 and 30 yards on fourth down plays.
- Georgetown scored a TD on a 77-yard pass on Sept. 21.
- Brown's defense and special teams allowed 18 touchdowns in 2023 of 35 yards of greater, including six of 50+ yards.
TURNOVER DOWNTURN
- Until last week's game at Princeton, Brown had been doing a good job in the turnover department, committing only four turnovers through their first four games.
- The Bears committed five turnovers against Princeton, their most in a game since Nov. 2022 vs. Columbia.
- Brown's average turnover margin per game through their first four games was +0.75, good for first in the Ivy League and 21st in the nation.
- Brown now ranks fifth in the league in turnover margin at an even 0.00.
- As a team, Brown finished with 13 interceptions in 2023, tied with Harvard for the most in the Ivy League.
