HANVOER, N.H. – Brown volleyball (5-11, 2-4 Ivy) beat Dartmouth (9-7, 2-4 Ivy) in four sets behind a career-night for Kayla Griebl.
Griebl finished the night with a career-best 21 kills as Brown overcame dropping the first set to the Big Green 25-23 to win the final three sets 25-19, 25-22, 25-23. Griebl's 21 kills are the most in a match for the Bears since Mariia Sidorova had 22 against Bowling Green on Sept. 13 of this year.
Sidorova added 14 kills for the Bears for her 13th match this season with double-figure kills, a team-high. Julia Kakkis guided Brown's offense with a career-best 37 assists and added a career-high 15 digs for a double-double.
On defense, Brown finished with 71 digs, the most since a 71-dig performance against Yale on Sept. 23, 2023. Jessie Golden had a team-high 23 digs and Ella Park had 16 digs. Beau Vanderlaan led the net defense with seven blocks on the night.
After dropping the first set, Brown fell 16-11 midway through the second set. Three kills from Griebl and a kill and ace from Sidorova tied the set and the run continued with three more kills from Griebl as Brown used a 9-0 run to go up 20-16. The Bears held off any Dartmouth run and closed the set with a kill by Hannah Flannery.
Brown began the third set jumping out to a 7-1 lead with the run capped by two service aces by Sidorova and a block by Vanderlaan and Kakkis. Dartmouth cut Brown's lead to one multiple times but the Bears responded each time, never letting the Big Green tie the set. Up 21-22, Brown used two errors and a block by Vanderlaan to earn set point. Flannery again finished off the set with a kill for the Bears.
A 3-0 run after the set was tied at 12 gave Brown an advantage in the fourth set that they would not relinquish. Dartmouth cut the lead to one at 23-22 but a kill by Griebl gave Brown match point. After an error from Brown, Griebl closed out the match with a kill.
