Volleyball Drops Match With Cornell, 3-0.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown volleyball dropped a three-set match to Cornell on Saturday night, 25-16, 27-25, 26-24.
Beau Vanderlaan, Mariia Sidorova and Sophia Wolfson each had 10 kills to lead the Bears. Wolfson has finished with 10 kills in back-to-back matches for the first time in her career. Julia Kakkis continued to distribute the ball well, finishing with 27 assists.
On defense, Jessie Golden led Brown with 20 digs and Kakkis was second on the team with eight. Kakkis also led Brown with four blocks, followed by Vanderlaan and Wolfson with two each.
Cornell's offense found its rhythm early, hitting .500 in the first set as the Big Red took control of the set with an 8-1 run. Brown fought off three set points but could not get any closer than eight.
Brown started set two with a 5-1 lead after two kills by Wolfson and a 3-0 run later in the set put Brown up 15-11. A 6-2 run by the Bears put Brown ahead 22-17 after Cornell had pulled within one. Brown earned set point at 24-23 after a kill by Vanderlaan but Cornell fight off Brown's set point before earning its own. After Brown earned the next point to tie the set at 25, Cornell scored the next two to take the second set.
The teams traded runs throughout the third set with Brown going on a 4-1 run to make the score 21-18 Bears. Cornell responded with five-straight points and earned match point at 24-22. Two-straight from the Bears tied the set at 24 but Cornell scored the next two points to end the match.
UP NEXT
Brown will be on the road next weekend to end the first half of the Ivy League season with matches against Dartmouth (Oct. 18) and Harvard (Oct. 19).
